The little '+' button next to each ship level to indicate an increase does not work

The number should be already filled in. Are you sure you have javascript enabled? Maybe you're using noScript?

Some 3rd party addon/extension is messing with your browser. Deactivate them all. Turn them on one by one.

Once you find which makes the problem, uninstall it as it is also probably dangerous.

I use chrome. it is a company computer so whatever they have installed stays there, so i highly doubt it is something dangerous.

Companies often install spyware on computers and some really dangerous stuff on their computers for the sake of moderation and restriction.

Check out "Luminosity Link": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luVTqwChzIU

Companies regularly use that type of software on client computers.

I am 99% certain that they have installed something that it is at least not well written. You could try using Chrome Private (anonymous) version of the browser where the problematic plugin might be disabled. If this still not work, you should do try and disable extensions.

Most probably you will be able to do and it is not a sinister thing to do; a bad written addon/extension is a nuisance to have.
