Shipwrecks that sell for one gold coin

Postby Lefty » Sun Jan 29, 2017 4:13 pm

Was wondering why some ships I hunt and then sell only go for one gold coin? :gc: Brig is one of the ships affected.

As i understand it, if a ship loses a level, it also loses some inherent value now : lose enough levels and it will end up being inherently worthless unless you invest more gold coin into it by re-levelling it : I've come across quite a few of these ships now which may have been tails that got levi-ed out to get at the good stuff...

As well as loosing its value when a level is lost like Danik states, I also think it looses its value when its changed hands...

I took a MoW off Boot - Upgraded it to level 10, and only received 18 million gold coins from it... We all know, they were not originally his.

So a level 1 ship, of any sort, with 6 attribute points and no damage occasionally sells for an off amount (I've had LMMs go for 20k when they usually go for 43k as well as the odd sloop or cutter go for the infamous 1 gc). There is no indication that this ship is any different from the others. Is there some hidden negative attribute or just the roll of the die?

All ships have an inherent value : it is based on the build cost : now, that can also vary as rank bonuses make building and levelling up ships cheaper, so the inherent value can differ between apparently similar ships depending on who built it : the only way to know is to check how much the shipwright is willing to offer for it, as the 70% offer will be calculated off that inherent ship value.
Added to this is the way ships will also lose value if they lose levels : if a ship consistently loses levels over time, say as the tail of a well-used fleet, then it can drop in value to nothing, or 1 gc miminal value : if a ship is levi-ed into Davy Jones locker, it will also lose value with those levels. thus my comment above about some 1gc ships being unfortunate levi victims while clearing tails.
Theoretically, it will be possible to find a MoW with 1 gc value.

Perhaps they are mostly the free ship offered to newbs or pirates without ships.

As a someone who owned shipwright until I didn't start excesive drinking and gambling I agree we are specific kind of humans strange ones whom pays millions for shipwreck or pay 1 gc for a decent ship it all depends did we got good night sleep or we were awake through entire night...
