I was not here for the entire year, however from the time I started until now,
I saw some fairly impressive actions from the following players
not saying I agree with all of their actions or how they achieved them,
but I was impressed.

Charles Vane
Ivan
Avery
Valar
Big Tea
Phoenix Knight

highly impressed with Harons game suggestions and critiques, his devotion to them and focus on making the game better for all players,
not just that of the Naval combat solutions providers

my incredibly biased vote for player of the year goes to - Shadowood

i've thought long and hard about this.
what am i looking for? some players do extremely well, but do so for a long time already, did they really improve again this year or was it just a continuation of a successful strategy?
shadowood stands out, his forum game was awesome and very instructional, his suggestions are constructive and well thought through and his ingame play is also up to standard. the creation of his guild is just one example. it is not for nothing that he gets a lot of nominations.

since he got so many already i like to nominate someone else: BMW

he's often hotheaded and reacts before he thinks and gets into trouble for that. but i admire his perseverance! when he's brought down, he gets up again and start rebuilding. when he's lit up (again) he shores up his defenses and rides it out.
Surviving and being resilient under adverse circumstances is a form of greatness

BMW is imo the greatest survivor of 2016 and i nominate him for that reason.

I would like to nominate:

Malachi Constant

Captain Da Vinci

both of these members go the extra mile to help new members and guild mates alike. Their assistance is important for a game that is community driven because it is their energy that keep people active. Active members tell others about the game and again this is something that a community driven game has to have. Both of the people are great for the game and community.

Hello all,
Long term player here. I stepped my game up this last year in the skirmish and bounty areas of play. That activity did not even get me in the top ten of player of the year. I would like to say congrats to Capt. Jack :y , maybe even Jessie A :xx , and the other other(s) :wheel for stepping up the admins contributions the last year. I have a list of top ten players in mind. However, I would like to know the qualifications we use to distinguish such pirates. Is it activity, success, teamwork, individuality, fame, influence, battles won, nation control, individual stats, plunders, ships stolen, gold earned/stolen/spent, forum activity, terrible voodoo suggestions, blah blah etcetera etcetera ?
Your thoughts...

I disagree. I would vote Mack over BMW as the greatest survivor. BMW gets hit by some voodoo and then sells off his ships. Mack got hit with Voodoo, had a contract hit placed on him through MERC, and had numerous bounties against which put him on the top 10 of several of the bounty statistics (I know as I placed most of the bounties). As a specific example of being a great survivor, he had a 10M bounty placed on him for ship plundered at 100k per ship (on top of other bounties for just wins, etc.), that's not just plunder battle wins that is ships actually plundered, where the entire bounty was fulfilled. He is still here and chugging along fine. That's surviving and even then there are those in this game that have suffered far worse in 2016 and are still here.
