BTW : it is not necessary to remove a mindbar to cast a spy network to verify ownership of a particular ship : just cast a Rotten Food on the ship number : if it bounces off the MB, or not, that will tell you who the owner is and also create a verifiable voodoo log entry. The only way it wont work is if the ship is in a marina, on the sea-bed, or no longer exists in the game
