refitting

att allocation made easy

Image

the problem is that the cost usually places a market ship out of a reasonable price range

edit - the refit tech is not a bad idea - x number of atts can be changed by level

I agree that resetting is too expensive. I like Stan's idea, I'm just afraid it may be abused.

How about this, then: Whenever you steal a ship, it's attributes are reset? That should be harder to abuse, probably. And most of the ships with atts are probably stolen...

To make it worse, remodel can only be found in boosters...

Remodel should be a common card

I guess there is the possibility if someone really wanted to, they could get a buddy to buy their ship with cleaned atts and run it through the auction again where you could purchase it but personally, I would not jump through those hoops just to be able to reassign atts and save a remodel card.
Especially when the ship is going to be out of action for at least 3 days and maybe more while waiting for the ship to get back to the front row of sales.

my point is two-fold. If I steal a ship, I get what I get and to make it suitable for my usage, I'll remodel. If I buy a ship, I really don't want to have to clean out the old owners trash and sweep the floor mats, clean the holds etc. After all, I would be paying premium price and should be able to set atts where I want them, not where the former owner thought they should be.

The other thing is, I might want to put some ships up for auction but I don't want my att stack out there used against me. I would pay an extra credit or 2 just for the privilege to reset and include cost in final ship price.

As I dwell on this further, to solve my problem, I could remodel my ships before sale but that would put the price up too high.
Now, if there was some way I could advertise this ships special 'features' like Refreshed Att Stack or Built for Speed or Can Take a Punch with a brief description that justifies the higher price, hmmm.... Ok getting out there ... just... the economics don't work out quite right.

I usually don't like to post in the forums, especially if it is against an idea of a respected player. However, I cannot agree with Stan's thinking on this one and I feel my point of views should be voiced.

The att placement makes up part of the price for a ship in the market. I am not going to pay nearly as much for a ship that is not set up the way I would like it. If the ship is going to need to be remodeled I take that into consideration for the price I am willing to pay. At the same time, if I recognize the ship I am selling is poorly set up I will reduce the price of the ship.

As for the atts being wiped when you cap a ship...Sometimes you capture a prize of a ship and sometimes they are pieces of junk. If you capped a ship that had a busted rudder and a mast that was leaning it should not become miraculously repaired just because it now belongs to me or someone else. A badly set up ship is a badly set up ship. I feel this is as it should be.

Why not an Asterisks line on Ship Market screen so you can see more easily if a ship has all points available or to look closer.

Free Points vs Assigned.

Something of that nature for navigating market ships.

Between you and me Kart, I very rarely ever use the ship market and sell back to the shipwright my discards. I have replenished my trade ships with lvl 1 builds but to purchase warships, it has to be special in my eyes and most of them are 'meh', I could build better maybe from scratch.

I am realizing the value of the ships I procured when I was able to build/sell with no penalty. The way it is now makes that strategy not financially feasible and the way it is currently, it could be even more expensive.

I think to solve the problem I'm having, the solution is to just sell back to the shipwright but I must work it a bit to pay for the diff it will cost me in recycling fees.

I don't believe ships should ever be reset by any system aside from remodeling. It's not realistic in the slightest. A ship is built and that's the way it is unless restructured by someone (ie. Remodeled).

If you don't like the ships build don't buy it, you can view their attribute allocation easy enough.
