New "Inn Keeper" Feature (Medium)

Postby Shadowood » Mon Nov 21, 2016 6:05 pm

In real life I am a Hotelier. I run a very successful hotel and have been an “Inn Keeper” for 20 years now. I have had an idea of an “Inn Keeper” for a while now… Here it is.

INN KEEPER

Port Building
Run by Governor of Port
Build Cost - $10,000,000
20,000 Wood
15,000 Iron
10,000 Tools
5,000 Cotton.
Instant Build

Once built this feature will be available on the “Court” page. Link on the right side next to “Work as Porter” and “Build up Port”. Listed as “Visit INN”. Also listed under “Fleet Action” on your fleet page. You must be in a port with an INN or you will get a default message that says so.

On the World Map, if an Inn is present at that port, there will be an Identifier saying so. (need capt jack input on this)

The Inn is a place where weary sailors can reset up from long voyages. When resting, they will gain certain abilities. For every hour you rest, you gain 2x back in the ability you select. (This is fleet based, so per Fleet) In the Inn Page you will be able to select a Merchant or Pirate benefit from a list of benefits.

Merchant –
• 2% Extra Income on Trade Route Sales. .5% Gold Bars. Can be stacked with Indian Company Cards. Max rest time is 48 Hours. Max Benefit Time 96 Hours.
• 10% Ship Speed Gain. Can be stacked with Favorable wind. Max rest time is 48 Hours. Max Benefit Time 96 Hours
• 70% chance of fleet avoiding skirmish. Max rest time 12 hours. Max Benefit Time 24 hours

Pirate –
• Lower Danger Gain per attack by 2. Max rest time 12 hours. Max Benefit Time 24 hours
• 10% better attack roll. Can be stacked with voodoo. Max rest time 12 hours. Max Benefit Time 24 hours
• 5% more plunder. Paid by game. Max rest time 24 hours. Max Benefit Time 48 hours

As to avoid an Over Power situation, only 1 effect can be active on a fleet at once.

Costs of resting.
10,000 gold coin per hour of rest deposited into Governor’s bank account of choice or personal bank.
Example – Black Sparrow takes his fleet “Modern Supplies” to an Inn. He selects 2% Extra Income. Enters in 6 hours of rest. Pays $60,000 gold coin to Inn Keeper.

5% Nation Tax (paid to nation’s treasury)
1% King Tax (paid to King of Nation)

Once built a player cannot lose his Inn he built, it will just go inactive if he loses he governor seat in that port and will reactivate if he regains control of that port. If population changes and he becomes a governor of a different port he will need to build another Inn in the new port or raise the population up in the port he wants to be governor in. The big kicker, only 2 Inn’s per NATION. Only the top 2 influence holders in a nation will have the option to have an INN.

My thoughts on this feature.
• Add more interest in becoming a Governor of a port. You stand to make some profit if you are able to hold a port for an extended period of time.
• Add more competition within a nation to hold higher influence.
• Add a feature that will reward those who put forth great time and wealth to maintain a port/nation
• Add an interesting mechanism that will allow a player to choose a specific benefit based on play style.
• While a fleet is at “rest” they cannot be used.
• While a fleet is at “rest” they can be attacked if Fugitive of Justice was cast.
• You pre-pay for the time you select. You may break this time early but NO REFUNDS.
• Since there will be a limited amount of INN’s on the map it could add more strategy to which ports are of more interest.
• There should be a MULTI SELECT tool just like when editing trade routes.

That’s my idea. I am open for lots of feedback on this one, mainly the “effects” you gain while at rest.
Thanks guys/gals

this has potential but only when nations are able to decide who gets governor seat otherwise I can't see players investing this kind of resources in something that changes hands too often...

Why don't you make it as another hideout building? levels and additional research add/improve inn features.

nice idea :)

it is an affordable one time investment for those who can afford to be a governor :)
i would think that an inn needs some regular supplies of rum, cigars and food.

i did not do the math (meliva, that's your strength!) but what is the actual gain for a trader to paus his fleets for a few hours? does he recoup his time investment? is it possible to do an auto wait for the auto trade?

pirates would use it to get stronger while they have to regrow their turns. with piracy tech maxed they can pay for 7 hours for the cost of 1 attack.

i like the 2 per nation limit! if it becomes a hit, than it will become coveted to be the top governor.

I think the governor should be able to provide names for his sons and daughters. :)
PM me any complaints (10M gold coin wire fee is mandatory).

I thought about doing a hideout building PHX and it still can be perhaps. The man thing is it needs to be limited to add value to the holder. There cannot be 21 Inns or more in the game. It will just devalue it.

We would need to make sure the EFFECTS are beneficial for "Resting" fleets first
We need to make sure it is a good investment for the Governor. Profitable.
I would like to see it add more competition for controlling ports

But I want to keep it simple to tie into current game features for easy implementation.

Please keep the suggestions coming.

If a nation selects who is governor than it will take out the competitive nature of having access to bonus's such as this idea. And people will elect to not put forth more effort in investing in influence to maintain control of said port.

but one of the problems of the governor seats being competitive is how the seats can change so easily. over the last couple weeks ive been bouncing between Tzogos, Psaral, and Akrotiri, all because if one port gains more population, the seat changes, same with influence. if a governor is given the opportunity to build up his/her port, what use is that if he can be switched to a different port every couple of days?
