Just to add to that explanation, he's extorting them for cred's. The person on the list who sends him the least creds will have his officers wiped out.

Port ownership is not producing the revenue expected maybe ? My calculation shows considerable loss of influence vs. tax revenue. This reverse lottery might be a way to finance continued port ownership ?

Just a thought, at this point we should rename the game to voodoo glory or Coup on the high seas (after the card game). The bottom line is that the games bills itself as a strategy game yet really, whats the strategy here. A player like Valar has no ships. He is neither merchant or Pirate. Instead they have invested large quantities of real money to build a voodoo stockpile (of over 16,000 cards in Valar's case) and now can literally do whatever they like and there is very little anyone can do about it.

I have no doubt that he will unleash his 200 assassins on a player. As of this writing he has 425 of them stockpiled. More to the point, he will cripple a player who has actually used strategy and invested long hours in the game. He will cost this player somewhere between 500 mil gc and 1 billion gc. That player will walk away from the game. And when Valar is done he will do his second auction and this time the participants will have to take note.

I will not debate if he should do it. I do not understand it, I don’t see the fun in doing it. It seems a bit like a kid with a magnifying glass in the sun with an ant, but hey, to each their own. But I will say that this does not hold with the tenants of a strategic game. This is simply finding a loophole and exploiting it.

What is the point of investing time and energy in this game for months (and in the case of Valar’s targets years) if you can be destroyed by a player not because they are smarter than you or better at the game than you but simply because they are willing to spend more money than you. Moreover, what are the options to counter-strike this player when the person is not looking to build or acquire power but simply to destroy for destroying sake.

If the game is to be saved, then the constructs of voodoo much change

I think someones a little upset; However you guys seem to be handling him you and a few others currently have 27 Voodoo casts against him as I do not agree with such action I show little signs of help for him. But, you have got to remember he even stated a few months back he was buying Assassins.

You guys could of stopped this happening, and still can stop him buying Assassins by outbidding him.

True. Some have tried. Assassins, FOJ's especially. Only so many LMM's get sold a day.

I do believe I followed 2 bids of 9 assassins all the way to 119 credits. 3 times what they are worth.

Can't keep up with war opportunist.

This be interesting to watch, to be certain. Most of us have used assassin curses in war or retaliation one time or another - I know I have. Now a top bounty hunter of Avonmora has decided to use these to create a little extortion lottery in an effort to make a few credits. How it works has yet to be seen.

Yosarian, I not be too worried about any of those blokes walkin' away from the game - take a good look at that list. Most of 'em have been around a good, long while and faced other storms, battles and extortion attempts before. It isn't the only list they be on - check out the Top Helper Lists, the list of bankers, the nation's kings and dukes, their influence, demographics, and others. They have been around this long, and while this episode has raised their ire, they will be up to the challenge, as it is apparent most of Avonmora be on their side. They didn't get where they are by giving up when storms take 'em down a notch or two. They usually come back stronger than before.

Val be on a few lists, too, but he hasn't been around long enough make as many of those lists, like Top Helper, but he's on a few. So far he's just put his plans out there and now is hunkered down just because of his words - he has yet to execute the act itself. Once he does, his reputation (and that of his mates) will be complete. That's what he's built here in Avonmora, just like all those on the list have built their reputations.

I hope Val's thought of what he wins if these old sea dogs don't come up with the ransom he's wanting...this time around or next.
