i am new :)
just on my second day.

it seems like my kind of game, so i'll try to make it work for me.
it's the first time that i joined a guild (BTS) in any game. i wonder if it ha any other members for i cannot see the memberlist.

You can view the members of your guild by navigating to your guild via Guild Rankings. Find your guild and click on it's name. On the page, you should see the Guild Leader, Total Fame, and a memberlist link with Total Members. Click the Memberlist link and you will see all your fellow guildmates. The other memberlist within the Guild is for guild leaders (and those provided permission to see it) and it contains additional detailed info.

I may not be that new anymore, but I think what's important to make people stay, is that they have the sense that something is happening. That there is some kind of action. The tutorials are nice (although there's a BUNCH of rules not covered by them), but after that, it's easy to lose the sense of purpose. What to do next? Well, perhaps do some nation missions, then, become marquess? But then what? I think newcomers need to see that there are things going on. Sure, the guilds are the best way to achieve this, but even as a member of a guild, it's easy to feel that not much is going on. Optimizing trade routes is only fun for so long.

I'm not sure what the best way to remedy this would be. I had a suggestion about "external political events", which would force events upon the game, and thus more "action", but there could be other ways too. Even today, having played for... let's see... four and a half months, I think there is too little happening. And by now, I actually have a better feeling of several of the things that actually ARE going on.

I believe Bigtea made a suggestion to have special events/activities that occurred daily/weekly. Giving a player something to achieve with a reward.

I saw this and thought that it should be like nation mission type stuff where you need to defeat a certain number of enemies that are hostile to your nation

A lot of other games that I play/have played... do a daily log in reward. This reward progress' as the month goes on, rewarding you for coming back everyday. If you miss a day or two then you miss out on the "big" prize on day 30. Then this login system resets for the next month. Sample suggestion:
Day 1 - 1000gc
Day 2 - 50 wood (port of choice)
Day 3 - 50 cotton (PoC)
Day 4 - 50 tool (PoC)
Day 5 - 50 iron (PoC)
Day 6 - 50 food (PoC)
Day 7 - 5 Gold Bars
Day 8 - 5000gc
Day 9 - 100 wood (port of choice)
Day 10 - 100 cotton (PoC)
Day 11 - 100 tool (PoC)
Day 12 - 100 iron (PoC)
Day 13 - 100 food (PoC)
Day 14 - 10 Gold Bars
Day 15 - 10,000gc
Day 16 - 200 wood (port of choice)
Day 17 - 200 cotton (PoC)
Day 18 - 200 tool (PoC)
Day 19 - 200 iron (PoC)
Day 20 - 200 food (PoC)
Day 21 - Your choice of a Howker or Cutter
ETC...
You get the idea. These items would benefit new players in allowing them to get some minimal supplies and g.c. and allow them to progress by providing incentive's for them to log in daily.

Just a thought. I know it would need some tweaking and these payouts don't benefit the experienced players much, but we are talking about getting new players to stick around....

I'm anew player and i'm going to say, that without the help of my guild i probably would have quit by now. In my view there needs to be a few more missions to help new players learn about the game, and directing new players to the mission or about the interface might be a good idea as it took me a while (and some of my friends) ages to figure out what and where all the on screen buttons where. Along with this once you get to a certain point (and i understand the games meant to be a challenge ) but building up a fleet to challenge other players can bea bit tough , and after 25 ships are made the Npc's get a huge percentage of toughness increase. It may be an idea to add a different stage of toughness, as someone who had 25 trading ships who just built a few sloops will have a tough time with Npc's , and won't be able to do nation missions as they can't fight Npc's effectively or other players. Now i love the game, and am happy to accept the daunting challenge but i think not being able to complete some missions drains a bit of the fun from the game as it removes some of the things new players try to aim for. For the aiming thing something that could be done is have a mission that tells the players of in game things they can aim for(watch as there already is and i completely missed it)
