bank is considered legal work and piracy is considered illelagly so in basic principle they aren't allowed to run any legal work because if we look at it pirates were hanged through out history and according to that logic it makes sense that they can't have bank

No it isn't retarded, and this coming from the guy who has made some of the worst suggestions. Back on topic. If I run a business and have payments due to me and I close my business, those payments are either lost or sold off. I can't reopen at a later time and expect repayment.

Think of it as closed for a holiday and not permanently closed. I agree with Guluuere on this one.

A bank still collects payments when it's closed for a holiday, and if you have an account there you can still access the funds within. A closed bank in PG does not.

Then may be a more appropriate suggestion would that collection continues even if closed.

Something that should be considered here is why the bank is closed.
I have no dealings in loans but I do have funds in an account of an inactive players bank.
This is frustrating as these funds are now lost.
I don't know, it seems to me if they ain't got you one way they got you another,
So what's the answer? that's what I keep asking myself, what's it all about?
Know what l mean?

This is the 3rd option I listed in my original post; however, I don't agree with doing so.

Related but a separate issue. However, players should be able to withdraw their money from a closed bank. And withdrawing should consist of all gc the player has at that bank, so you can't withdraw only part. All other options should be unavailable.

Using real world mechanics to argue for or against game mechanics is not, in my opinion, a good idea. What is important, is that not allowing pirates to operate banks have (again, in my opinion) negative consequenses for the game. I won't argue for giving pirates any special priveleges - paying less tax is more than sufficient in my opinion - but not allowing pirates to operate banks is too harsh. I can see the argument that closing a bank needs to have some sort of consequence, but if this can happen simply because someone miscalculated their danger rating and became pirates, that's too much.

Also, I believe there are some changes that would be good for the game, which is made less good by the fact that pirates cannot operate banks. For instance, I believe that a "Nation change barrier" should include people being forced to become pirates for some time before joining a new nation. This would be more acceptable if all banking operations didn't halt for that player during this period. I also believe that having fewer nations in the game would be agood idea. However, if that's the case, and one didn't like the banking laws of one's nation, entering an "untouched" nation would not be an option, but becoming a pirate, would. But if pirates cannot operate banks, that option would be closed, too, making the "fewer nation" suggestion less desireable.

Besides: If I lend you money, and then become pirate, there's always the alternative of making you pay me "unofficially". But that would be a lot of hazzle. Better to just let the pirates be able to run banks, too. I really see no in-game reason for why they shouldn't be able to do so.

I sorta agree that there is no reason why a pirate can't run a bank. A clever pirate could easily falsify documents to have a second identity to own land or businesses.

You could simply increase costs for pirates due to the nature of the operations, but allow them to run them.

I'm glad that you agree with me, but again, I think using "real world mechanics" as arguments is not a good idea :-)

I think Pirates should have banks, but instead of the name banks it could be " Treasure Coves" as pirates were known to place their booty in a Cave.

As Wolfie said, it is a legal activity (Banks) but, legal documents could be forged.

Fair, but we are using real world mechanics as references to build out functions within the game for banks, markets, etc. I can understand that this is a game and it won't match what is in the real world, but you can't not reference real world mechanics when the basic function was designed on real world mechanics.

It is important to remember that in this game, everyone can become pirates, join another nation, become pirate again, join a third nation and so on. The game mechanics therefore needs to support such changes. Having certain features stop working, change name or get different game mechanics based on whether or not the player is pirate or belongs to a nation for the moment, is inconvenient and unnecessary.
