If a guild wants only traders, they should be quick to expel any who do not abide by their rules. As long as such people remain in the guild, no wonder the guild is seen as supporting it. What some consider the act of one person, others may consider the responsibility of the guild. Being a large guild has it's advantages, but it also carries some risks.
When attacked, I would probably not retaliate against my attackers guildmates directly. But I might send them a message telling them that if said player REMAINS in that guild, everyone in the guild might have to answer for that player's actions. Traders being friends with pirates run a high risk. Attacking a pirate's friend is much easier than attacking the pirate directly.
This is a grey area. You can't expect the entire guild to be responsible for a single guild member's actions. I could understand specific circumstances where a guild could be held responsible, but we would be what if'ing this all day. A good example: If I come into a port and find your fleet on the plunder screen and plunder you, you can't hold my guild responsible for me plundering you.
You could what if the crap out of my example but generally speaking the guild is not responsible for normal game play. The player holds the sole responsibility for his actions.
Now I could understand if multiple guild members attacked a player. In that circumstance I could see holding all guild members responsible regardless of which one actually attacked the player.
As for this thread, I can only say this was the epitome of silly reasons to declare a war on a guild. Delrio's actions and rant were nothing but an attempt to bully a guild into kicking a player out of the guild for a big fat nothing burger. I did not violate any rules of the guild, nor instigate any fights with my comments. While I may push the boundaries of asswholishness with some of my comments, I do not post them to start wars or fights. Most are done in good humor.
