Top Merchant for the Period!

Recently, I made a thread suggesting a Top Pirate for the period, which can be found in the link below:

To balance it out, I figured I would make one for the Top Merchant of the period. I have a number of suggestions what this could be based on!

Reasons:
- Fame Rise ( One point per Quartermaster mention ) - Per gold coin is a fame point given ( Or something )
- Mention in Statistics such as Black Sparrow scoring the top fleets profit - Top three in this case would gain one point.
- Mention in Daily statistics of top "Profited fleet " , a score of one coin.
- Mention on Top 10 list per day. ( For ships, that is )
- Voting again, like Top Helpers and Piracy.

Prizes, as like the Pirate this will be compared to the Top Helper selection!
20 credits, 15 Buried Treasure cards, 10 Iron Golem cards, 3 Purify cards and 1 Flying Dutchman card.
If we want to compare the best Merchant monthly aka ( 30 Days on average then this would be the reward )

30 Days
- 30 English/Dutch/Spanish ( The most ships they have in a certain type eg. 50 Galleons, 20 Fluyts and 20 LMM's the player would get Spanish Indian Company.
- 10 West Indian
- 10 East Indian
- One Mindbar ( Compare 3 Purifys = 24 Credits then one Dutchman 27 credits - Average price of a Mind bar )

I believe these are fair in comparison to the Top Pirate - Maybe Mistaken, then again if you consider a period to be 3 months then this is what it will look like!

90 Days
- 90 English/Dutch/Spanish ( The most ships they have in a certain type eg. 50 Galleons, 20 Fluyts and 20 LMM's the player would get Spanish Indian Company.

- 30 East Indian
- Three Mindbar's ( Compare 3 Purifys = 24 Credits then one Dutchman 27 credits - Average price of a Mind bar )

Only benefits long-term, super wealthy merchants... Top 10 ship list does not necessarily mean a particular player has 500+ ships trading, just that they own 500 ships.

I'd prefer a metric which measured fleet profitability as an average over the entire ship count : after all, a merchant with 100 ships earning 100k each per day is far more worthy of the title than one with 1000 earning 50k each per day.

In the first case, that merchant has finessed their trade routes, optimised their fleets to drag the last shiny coin from their labors : in the second, that merchant has just lumped them on a standard run, tossed a few indies and sits back, sheer numbers making the end total impressive, is all.

Good points Danik..

However, comparing merchants is like comparing apples to oranges. Some trade gold bars, some trade straight up, some increase straight trade profits with voodoo cards, while others run party bus voodoo card routes. each of these merchants in their own respective right is different than the other.

Imagine the party card merchant, days of no profits and then wham! massive revenues when the party card(s) are dropped.

I think this idea is dead form the start. But just one humble lil merchant's opinion.

All good points, Crackedcubes : given the multiplicity of ways to earn coin, judging one over another is a bit doomed.
