Since National Diplomacy may be implemented soon, I though it was a good idea to bump this. I'm not really a fan of bumping, but this time it seems fair enough.

We could all just go pirate with no taxes etc all pirate ports with no laws equally for all and less work for administration.

Yeah, but then what would Danik and LT have to do?

Also looking at pirate rank it cuts upkeep in half to. Any merchant with 200+ ships could make an extra 1m in 10 days instead of paying in. As most smart merchant use only party cards the nation bonus of 10% only counts if you sell to ports your nation owns not parties

Well, since most major merchants DO belong to a nation owning ports, and are NOT pirates, I guess being a pirate is NOT the most profitable way to run business after all. And seeing all the benefits one can get from belonging to a nation with ports, that should be rather obvious.

Anyway: What on EARTH did this have to do with this post? I don't see ANY connection with my idea that nations should be able to support other nations for port control, and whether being pirate is a profitable way for traders?!?

Maybe I'm saying there is no need for diplomacy as all ppl want are bonuses to make more gold. I just voted negative to your idea like you do most ppls and offered an alternative. After all it's a pirate game but feels more like civilisation

Um, we dont pay the taxes anyway? But before you use this as a stick, check USA nation debts and see all the loyal citizens who dont pay their taxes either, after all, dodging tax is the american way :)

I sorta figured out you didn't like the idea, Ziggfried, which is fine, obviously. As an official "forum rambler", I expect some of my ideas to be liked and others not. I just tried to figure out your REASONS for you not liking it, and I'm still not much wiser in that respect.

I agree that the game feels a bit too civilized, and that most people ar just trying to get as good merchant bonuses as they can. I don't see why that implies that this particular idea was a bad one, though. If anything, this would allow for MORE conflict between nations. Or maybe you fear that the large trading nations will just use this opportunity to support each other in various ports, effectively dividing the world between them as they see fit? That is a possibility, I guess. Was THAT the reason you were negative to this idea?
