Stock Market

Postby Donald Trump » Wed Apr 20, 2016 8:02 pm

Hello, first post. So I have an idea.

Stock Market.

Say when a person becomes King of a nation such as the United States, they can issue out a company which sells stocks. The stock market changes based on the sale and trade of game materials. For example "Smithers' Rum" had their stock tripled in the past 24 hours, paying dividends to everyone who invested in "Smither's Rum." Companies such as "Smithers' Rum" can be created by anyone willing to pay 15 million dollars in order to start their own company. Companies can be sold/exchanged and players can own multiple companies and share their company with multiple people.

Knowing the stock market is extremely complex, paragraphs upon paragraphs could be written in order to patch corruption and state the rules. But this is simply the basic overview.
Just repeat after me: "Czar Ivan did not help me win the elections."

This kind of exists with the resource system. The "nation" part of your suggestion is like the bonuses that you receive in a port owned by your nation. This might be able to work if there are some changes and debate on those whose minds are greater than mine :)

Ofcourse you are right Chaulbad. Thats why i wanted to hear his thoughts in their full scale in order to think about it and adjust it, to the needs of the game.

How about something like this:

Each port has one company, which produces the good made in that port. At the end of each day, the shareholders of that company gets paid a dividend depending on the number of goods sold in that port that day. Say 100 M goods were sold, and there are 1 M shares in the company. Perhaps 1 gold pr good is an OK dividend, causing a payout of 100 gold pr share that day?

The "stock market" should be almost like the card market, where stocks in each company is sold for credits to other players.

Initially, all shares of all companies are owned by the system, which sells them in chunks at a certain minimum price. Players then bid on these chunks of shares, just like in the card market today.

This seems unfair in a way. The nations that have Tortuga-Tzogos or whatever the closest-highest-profit ports are would benefit the most. Something that allows every nation the chance to grow would be better. (plus i dont want another war just for stock markets!!!!)

That is not Haron's proposal : nations would have no involvement : the game sells the initial shares to the players, who then trade them on a market, as with cards and ships : shares in high activity ports like Tortuga, etc will be more valuable and thus command higher prices : low activity ports would be cheaper investments.

I kinda like this idea but doubt the devs would spend the time needed on it, not when so many other developments of approved suggestions need implementing : such as new nation laws, diplomacy, and , of course, the current biggie, Academy and techs.

My argument was that the ports who have a high rate of sales like the route Tor-Tzo (because he said the shareholders of that company gets paid a dividend depending on the number of goods sold in that port that day) would naturally be better. I think that your idea of higher prices for the more valuable ones is a great balancing tool. I didn't get that from his post, probably just me eyes going dim.

I believe you might be misunderstanding Danik's avatar. Not really a cowboy but more in the line of Cyrano de Bergerac!
