Alternative to Ship Experience

Postby Lockreed » Mon Apr 04, 2016 1:04 am

I have seen ideas posted about a form of ship "experience" before.

My idea is rather simple.

Lower the average number of attributes lost when a ship loses a level.

Example: 2-4 attributes lost when losing a level (average -3), versus 3-5 gained when leveling up (average +4).

Over time, ships that lose a lot of levels due to combat will gradually increase in average attributes if they are leveled back up.

This also encourages players to put "good" ships on the bottom of fleets to gain the benefit (at cost of losing!) over time.

Mmh... couldn't this let people lose levels on purpose, in order to gain att points?

Wouldn't that fall under danger manipulation? Anytime you lose levels it comes at a cost (gc on hand, fame, cost to relevel) so you can't avoid the pain of releveling that sotl to 10...

I'll admit, this isn't a "sexy" solution but just very elegant in that it is so simple.

Also, losing levels on purpose to try to get better attributes is already something that CAN happen, it just would become more likely that it will happen with this change.

There's an old trick to lose levels with no risk on purpose by letting an npc fleet win against you. This is a terrible idea. Call leviathans are used to cause mass destruction not help a player -1

I tried doing it on a sotl 3 times, keep getting the same attribute points, which is 3.

That could still happen even if this idea was implemented. You might still sometimes net lose attributes too (lose 4, gain 3). But SOMETIMES you would come out ahead and in the long run, you are more likely to come out ahead.

As far as levi's go, you could make it so levels lost in combat only are effected by this idea.

Sounds like nobody is really interested in it so that's fine.
