New Stat "Infamy"

This just pushes them in the merchant direction if fame is something they seek. I understand the points behind changing the formula and creating it in a way so wealthy merchants with hundreds of ships maintain fame easier as a sign of their progress and well, for lack of a better term, fame.

To combat this, I would ask that a new stat such as "Infamy" be added for the pirates. Infamy would be earned for each attack executed skirmish and plunder, while a percentage is lost every 24 hours or something. Pirates would have a stat board to try and stay at the top of and would be required to attack merchants often to do this. I could see more action coming from a new stat such as this.

As per CJ's suggestion after I posted the above in the new fame formula thread, I will start a new thread for my proposed stat.

I have not put a ton of thought into this yet, but was displeased with the new fame formula and how it works for pirates who operate with few ships on hand. As said this completely eliminates any pirate who uses these tactics from competing for fame in any way as they lose way for from receiving one attack than they can earn raiding a merchant and executing 60+ attacks.

I propose a new stat called "Infamy" be added with a new leaderboard for pirates, privateers ect. as a way of measuring their feared presence among the seas of Avonmora.

The first thing that comes to mind is having Infamy increase based on each successful plunder and skirmish attack. Either based on a percentage of another stat such as the targets fame, or even a set amount such as 50 Infamy earned per attack, whichever is more liked by the players. Infamy would then decrease by a percentage of that players Infamy each day at the update. (Accounting for hiding or the heat cooling down).

To earn the top spot of this board and to keep it would require daily attacks by these players seeking Infamy to maintain and increase their score. This would also give an added attraction to their profession for new players, and increase the overall action within the game. Making trading more dangerous and profits for traders smaller.

As stated, this is not fully thought through but i dont believe it to be a hard addition to figure out.

I find that the problem you're mentioning doesn't actually exist. As of now merchants don't get any fame from trade. They used to receive 1 fame per 10 crates traded. At this point though the fame system works pretty well. As a pirate you gain a considerable amount of fame through combat. If you keep winning then you keep gaining fame. If you lose on the other hand you lose fame. That's just simple. It doesn't matter how many ships you have. To prove this, I gained 2 million fame just with a level 10 sloop. I used the games mechanics to keep winning battles and to avoid losing battles. The best pirates will execute those 60+ attacks then run. Not stick around for the punishment, thus resulting fame loss. Also maybe you just have to accept that you won't be as famous a pirate if you don't have large ships to protect yourself from retaliation. The people with high fame have the ships to not lose battles.

Its the number of ships a player owns that makes this faulty.

My victim owns 250 ships with 3 million fame, using the new formula

-Fame Loss: (10% of total Fame) / (Number of Ship owned by loser/25) -> Winner loots half of this
-Maximum fame loss this way: 10% of total fame per attack

I would earn (300,000) / (250 / 25) then times that by 0.5 = 15,000 Fame Earned

Attacker hits me with 1 ship and 3 million fame

(300,000) / (1 / 25) times that by 0.5 = 3,750,000 (Now i can only lose 10% max per attack so i actually lose the 300,000 fame)

I attack once to get 15,000 and i get hit once for 300,000???? The more ships you own, the less fame you lose, completely caters to merchants, all regardless of ship quality. Which don't get me wrong, merchants with many ships earning a healthy millions a day should be rather famous for doing their job well.

I just propose Infamy as a new stat to measure how feared a pirate could be for doing his job well.

Think about it this way: In real life if an incredibly famous pirate attacks a not well known merchant's fleet, the pirate wouldn't gain much more fame for that (technically infamy I guess). The same applies in the game. It seems unfair but I can see the logic in the current formula enough so to approve it and not this proposed 'Infamy' statistic.

Edit:Does the formula for fame need to be fixed? Yes, without a doubt. But adding a whole new statistic is unnecessary. Instead lets put our heads together and try to create a different formula for fame.

I agree with your statement on not gaining Fame by attacking a lower class merchant, but that is not the case here. The more ships the merchant has the less fame i would take, but the less ship that merchant has, the more i take. Its actually reverse of what you just said...

Whats wrong with a new stat such as Infamy? In real life, pirates were not famous, they were infamous. Known for their less than savoury acts. Where as Merchants, Nobles, and Politicians generally were known for fame. Why not give the pirates a leaderboard to climb and become the most "Infamous" pirate of Avonmora? Seems fitting to me..
