You get paid in gold. If he has no gold, then you grab the ship. Check here for all details:

There needs to be a demoralisation/humiliation code added to heavy weighted/big guys who go around plundering tiny newb player ships, as it just doesn't seem fair play at all.
Of course we are lucky to have VOODOOO! which does help with the frustration of these attacks. but they need to have some kind of black mark added to their name so people can see how pathetic they are.

There will always be those who take advantage of new accounts however the number is small and usually the culprit is a poor warrior who have minimal skills in game.
There is a grace period for new players that will not allow strikes on new accounts. Once you use 1000 turns and the grace period is removed, most new players should know that adding danger to a fleet opens them to strikes on their assets. Also, if your fame is below 25, you become immune to other attacks.
Perhaps the solution is to keep your fleets from gaining 3 or more danger points until you have resources to defend yourself.

If you are unaware of the 3 danger rule, perhaps find some ingame help via a guild that can mentor you on the more subtle points of the game.

There are indeed some players that will hunt new players, as you say. There are many who will if they see you burning with danger and on a plunder screen take an opportunity and hit you, the answer to the latter is not your voodoo deck, they are real people too, often a polite message will ensure they dont see you as a target and you may gain some friends from it.

As Stan suggested learn about the danger rules or join one of the guilds that is going to teach you how to grow in the game and play well.

Basic rule #1 :If you are not lit, you don't get hit.

So, if you want to not get hit, by anyone, big or small, learn how the danger system works and work within it to keep off the plunder pages : that applies to all players, new or veteran : the only time you should be choosing to get lit-up is when you hit another player, and any return hits arising from that are part of the deal when you decide to go for it.

So, if you are lit, you get hit... no point complaining as to who hits you, big, small, veteran, newbie... it dont really matter how big the fleet is that hits you, it only needs to win... you lose the same plunder regardless of being hit with a small raiding fleet or a 5x MoW mega-fleet.. everything else is just pride hurting.

So, a player casts voodoo on you and lights you up, what then? Be in a guild that backs you up, that watches and acts to clean you up fast : take the hits, that's part of the game : again, it dont matter WHO hits you.. you lose the same gold : keep a solid purse to cover plunders : dont leave high-value ships unprotected by low-value tails on the fleet : dont whine, its undignified and be honest, you would loot another player in the same position too, no?

Most of all, enjoy the game, the ups, the downs... and learn from your mistakes, better still, learn from others mistakes.. its cheaper.

Well said Danik.
This is a pirate game and pirates do what pirates do.
Don't get excited, don't get mad, just enjoy the game.
Play daily and don't let your fleets get into more danger than you are comfortable with.
AND get an ugly pair of shorts to wear, it makes the game more fun.
