OK, so raw data here for my case. Please weigh in, especially if you are thoughtful and maybe have some math skills.

This is what you can expect as a pirate these days in response to a simple HN raid.

Please realize the turns that it cost to cast all this--let alone the cost in cards. And that the caster had all this available AT ANY RANDOM MOMENT.

CAST:

Sabotage--This card needs to be looked into and explained better. Does de fleeting work? As I'm looking it up during this battle, I see that its 50% flip which is why I allowed it to continue hoping to drain the undrainable turn stock, still he cast 83 of these cards.

Call Leviathan--OK this whole counterattack only sunk two cutters and a sotl. The cost of 32 Call Leviathan cards in my mind is far more. Win for me?

Spy- 2, Ambush, confuse, swarm & disfavor--normal, fine.

Thieving Magpie--Oh, throw in 12 of these just to be annoying, also fair enough.

Time Spiral--156. 156!!!! No words needed.

SO, just in cards thats 290...total turn cost? well you'd have to also add a million attacks on my fleets. This was actually my fourth raid of the day, so my raiders had high danger. With the disfavor, he had gosh, quite a few attacks (should be in the port history of ps/ak).

Anyway, to conclude, my sole goal was to bump JB from top spot (someone had to), that was accomplished. My secondary goal was to keep my capital fleets, accomplished (if somewhat bruised). I probably lost a million or two, but gold isn't really an issue for me these days (despite Trixi always digging up my treasure, lol).

As game balance goes though, jeeez--I'd hate to be a starting pirate these days.

Oh, while I'm complaining, a new thread cause I'm saying something nice!!!

The game was completely stable this time during this attack, I was able to move my MOW around into various fleets, dodging spells as they rained from the skies...if this was a result of stability improvements, THANKS!!!

Much more fun if you can fight back, and yes Joe, it was fun:)

Quite frankly, I'd hate to be a starting anyone with thoughts of making plunder my main mission statement these days. You may as well devote your turns to digging up treasure as it is much safer and probably pays better. The main cast of characters here have been around for years and their voodoo stacks must be respected.
Choose your battles wisely. Your last raid was certainly an error on your part and to top it off, at some point in time you hit LT and he was ready to lay on a similar treatment to you , all be it, I am sure not as severe as Joe's response was. When he started doing his due diligence on you and saw your plight, thought he would wait a while.
Brave & Fearless is one thing but choosing your battles is a skill you must work on a little.

edit: With the plunder changes that have been implemented, and a voodoo card besides Ambush that could be used to make trade fleets more accessible, a pirate could earn a decent living I suppose. Especially if you could easy pull 500k+ on a trade fleet.
That feature in itself should change things for you and the way things are done for everyone.

Look there have always been old players with scary voodoo, you are talking to the last person ever "Xep" ed.

New is the almost total lack of daily piracy. Boot of course is a hard score, I knew it would get rough. But you know boot was still boot back in the day and he used to get hit pretty much weekly--it kept his retaliations within reason because he had to keep resources on hand for the next pirate.

And yes, as I said, I hit "the love tiger" (ooooh scary) and Capt Dungeness as well and probably a few more I've forgotten...how about this for a real balance change for pirates:

NO SMS OR EMAIL NOTIFICATION OF ATTACKS

That would make things fun again:)

Just some chit-chat, the game is designed to be hard for pirates. It is deliberately in this way. I still believe however that it is not yet hard enough. It should become harded in the future but before this happens, we want to give more fleeting options to pirates.

more chat: I think everyone knows that I think thats a little odd--maybe "Pirate's Torture" would be a better game name:)

Of course Stan's treasure game is already been done, anyone remember "DigDug?"

Oh and to the people that say the real life west indian pirate history played out with nations banding together and ending piracy, sure, but why stop there? Make the game "Carnival Cruise Capitalism" and we can all save our ducats for The Love Boat, cause that's who ultimately won...
