ok, this one's kinda complicated.

this player's simultaneously asking for help, brand new to the game, invisible on the chat bar, and doesn't seem to be getting messages in.

it just seems unlikely that a brand new player would be deliberately going invisible right from the beginning. especially if they're asking for help at the same time.

just pointing this out so you can check to see if there's something wrong with the chat function.

The player is within the guild so it shouldn't be a friendship problem

why is this suddenly marked as no-bug without any explanation as to why this happened... this was ages ago, but it has also happened since then to other players in lesser degrees... if a new player is posting in a guild forum about how they need help, but they Began with the ability to use the chat feature turned off, what else would you call it Besides a bug.

New players don't get added to your friends list, the auto message just gets sent to them and they can reply. I don't know if you are added to their friends list but considering how the friendslist works I doubt you are.

the player was in our guild for roughly 2 hours at the point i posted my initial query. so yes, she was on our list and we were on hers.

it looks like i missed this detail in the initial post.

.... the entire problem was that we WERENT able to get chat messages back and forth with a brand new player that was posting in our guild forum about how she was having trouble talking to people, and wanted help....

Then its was probably an issue with her not knowing its there or something like that....maybe..
