I think, once several stories are submitted, I'll make a new topic that will show each entry, and give a poll to vote which one is the best. Until then, folks can submit their entries either here, or message me in game. Good ideas for the name of the topic though. I might use on of those or something similar.

Will probably wait til the day of halloween before starting the poll, if enough entries are given. So all of the 29th and 30th is time to enter, and maybe some time through the 31st depending on when I make the poll that day.

Panic in Pania!
A Halloween story

I was sitting alone at a local tavern in Pania, drinking a bottle of rum one rainy October evening when the crew of the Avonmora Trading Company poured in through the double doors of the saloon, looking aghast. Some of the crew hurried towards the bar and shoved aside a few locals, shouting for the barkeep’s attention. They demanded a case of their finest rum. The barkeep hurried towards the back room to fill their expensive order.

I watched as the leader of ATC, Captain Da Vinci, saunter toward a large table to go over tonight’s latest folly with his companions, Wally and Jim Hawkins. They soon were joined by the others who had ordered the case of rum. All of them were loudly conversing about the vicious gang of merciless pirates known as the Brethren. Da Vinci tried in vain to calm the others, but the two lovely maidens he had sitting on each side of him, decided they would be more effective by offering some of the men a private dance to soothe their nerves. Wally was very much enamored with a little raven haired wench and disappeared with her for awhile. Turns out Wally was the rowdiest of the bunch.

With Wally out of sight, Da Vinci was able to calm his fellow guildmates down. They were trying to devise a plan to put an end to this VUDU guild finally. I decided to eavesdrop on their conversation and moved to a closer table. Apparently Juicy, William and Shadowood, over the years, have made off with billions in gold coins, stole some of their best ships while wrecking hundreds of others! This past raid was the last straw for the weary eyed crew.

So I decided that I should mention to Da Vinci that the menacing sea hag known as Meliva has descended upon Pania this morning. Da Vinci laughed at this news “That explains the ominous green clouds that seem to carry a terrible stench which has enveloped this little port. Why I almost hit a enormous rock with my ship coming onto shore!” The leader of ATC bolted out of the tavern on a mission to find this witch.

I left the tavern and headed home. The air was filled with that putrid stench again. Crazy witch and her vile concoctions. I must remember to get her to switch from pufferfish to oleander. A much more pleasant smell and just as deadly. When I arrived home I noticed a letter left partly hidden under my door. I unlocked the heavy wooden doors then picked up the letter and sat down in the large velvet chair of my parlor. It was from Scraps of the wealthy guild known as Tudor. My former guild. He was writing on behalf of PhenoixKnight, the newest leader who replaced Lodswe when he retired as Headmaster.

“Lolita, I dread writing you the latest news. PhoenixKnight has gone missing. We at Tudor have gotten word that the nefarious duo Dman and DezNuts are holding him for a hefty ransom. They say if we don’t come up with 500 million gold coin each, that Shadowood will be sending him back to us piece by bloody piece.” Tears started to roll down my cheeks. How horrid! I was there when Zephore lost his eye to William when he was accused of being a spy for T’zak Ryn. Turns out he was only a traitor. Ha Zephore now looks like the twin of William One Eye!

Something must be done before Shadowood carries out this terrifying plot! I put on my black hooded cape with gold trim that was bestowed upon me as a gift from a Druid High Priestess and made haste to seek my dear old friend Meliva. By the time I arrived at her favorite spot in the dark woods of Pania, her Coven had started an incantation on behalf of Da Vinci who paid them handsomely. They were invoking the Dark Lord!!!

A blood moon started to quickly rise in the late night sky partially covered by dark menacing clouds that rained blood. Luckily it only lasted a few moments until a gruesome apparition appeared before our eyes. It was Pirate Nelson and his ghostly crew. He floated quickly to Meliva and grabbed her by her throat, pointed a dagger at her heart, then threatened to cut it out unless she told him why he was summoned from his deep slumber. Meliva told him about how Da Vinci begged her to put an end to the Brethren and paid her well. Nelson removed his hand and asked what she wanted of him. “I need you to release the Kraken”. Nelson mischievously smiled at her. “My dear, I will give the Kraken legs if only you shall return the favor”. Meliva inquired “What is it you want”? Nelson replied, “I want you to join my crew for eternity” as he plunged his dagger into her heart. Her body went limp as her soul departed this world and entered the other realm. “Now how am I going to assist Da Vinci and save phoenixKnight?” she moaned. Nelson told her a sacrifice was needed to call upon the Kraken.

I ran out of the woods as fast as I could when I realized that they did not call upon a Kraken. Nelson, that trickster, conjured an Ancient One.
“Meliva sometimes you can be a little careless” I thought as I headed home. I reached my house by daybreak and quickly climbed up the stairs to my room and knelt under my bed and grabbed a heavy old book bound in decaying leather. I opened the book and found the ink had turned to blood. I gasped and paused for a mere second until I gathered up the courage to rifle through the wet pages to find the right passage.

I found the passage and read the description of the Great Old One that was summoned. It sent shivers down my spine. Lord Hastur the Unspeakable one. Son of Yog-Sototh. Half-brother to Cthulhu. He is said to appear as “a flying monstrosity with tentacles tipped with razor-sharp talons that can pierce a victim’s skull and siphon out the brain”. A passage I copied from the Feaster from Afar.
Oh Meliva! What have you done?

In the distance I could hear blood curdling screams. I went to the bedroom window and looked towards the plantations and saw the monster looming over the trees. The plantation workers were trying to escape. Some brave souls stayed behind to fight but were too slow loading their cannons. They were scooped up and flung by the monster’s tentacled arms. And those were the lucky ones. A few were torn apart and eaten like soft chewy taffy.

I returned to the book and tried find the incantation to banish this horrendous monster from Pania’s shoreline. Unfortunately the pages bled together and became indecipherable. I was dismayed, hundreds of people have been killed already and thousands more will perish if this monster isn’t sent back to the depths of the ocean where it came from. I then remembered that Feniks is a collector of rare antiquated books. He would have what I needed.

I left my house and borrowed my neighbors horse. I saw that Hastur had gotten closer. I thanked the heavens that it was slow. The town was now deserted as people fled with what little they could carry and headed towards the town of Regis. That was were I was headed. To find Feniks and a way to defeat this monster.

As I arrived at the immense castle belonging to the guild known as Port Royal, I opened the heavy wooden doors and walked down the an impossibly long corridor which led to the enormous dining hall. Before the untimely death of Nelson, he was the most feared Pirate in Avonmora. This dining hall is confirmation to that proclamation. Gold plated mirrors lined the walls, shields with crossed swords lay in between each mirror. Each long sword was used to slay an enemy of Nelson’s. Ten long black marbled tables with matching black velvet dining chairs filled the hall. A huge feast was being served with music and dancing, it was a nice reprieve from the madness that was only a few short miles from here. I walked to the enormous chair that sat at the far end of the great hall where Nelson used to sit to watch the festivities. It was now occupied by Feniks, one time ruler of Bermuda, destroyer and builder of great nations. He himself was a former member of VUDU, much like Nelson. As I approached Feniks, I was warmly greeted by this extraordinary man. “Lolita, what brings you here?”

I caught him up on the events of Pania in the past 24 hours. How Meliva and Nelson had summoned a beast from the Panian Sea and unleashed it on the small port and now it was headed this way feasting on anyone crossing its path. Feniks having the Ancient Book known as the Necronomicon, is our last hope. Feniks excused himself and motioned for me to follow him to his private library. Inside he kindly offered me a glass of wine from his own private label. A Pinot Noir. I gulped it down greedily. I was parched at this point. He offered me a seat at his desk while he looked for the book I sought. Not five minutes had passed when he handed me the ancient black book. He told me to treat it carefully and bring it back straight away. Many men have tried to steal this book only to meet their doom. How were they to know only the rightful owner can possess this book unless borrowed?

I took this sacred book with me, promised it was in good hands and left Port Royal Castle and went to the local apothecary that belonged to the former Sea Hag, Meliva. All the ingredients for healing potions and tinctures were neatly organized. I knew the more deadly, rare and powerful ingredients where hidden away. I found the small unassuming door which lead to a flight of stairs that descended into her small quarters. I opened Feniks Necronomicon and found the powerful hex that will banish an ancient one. I hastily grabbed all of the ingredients and whipped up the potion. I headed up the stairs and out the door of the apothecary and saw Hastur had finally arrived. The men of Port Royal were fighting it back so I hurried towards them. As I got closer, the monster saw the bottle in my hand and it seemed to understand what this potion was. I opened the book to the page folded over so I can quickly repeat the Hex. I looked at the monster and tossed the potion in his direction. I noticed that it seemed relieved. Maybe he was tired and wanted to return home? A bright blinding light flashed when I tossed the potion in the direction of the monster that immediately was sent back and I had to shut my eyes. When I finally opened them, I saw that I was entombed in a green seaweed covered glass prison under the Panian Sea. Trapped until someone rescued me. My thoughts turned towards Scraps and his letter. What shall become of PheonixKnight? Did ATC finally get the revenge on VUDU they sought? I started to cry. Oh my cruel fate.

Alright, so Lola was the only one to enter a story, so a poll won't really be needed since she wins by default, that being said, her story was really good so I think she earned it regardless. Thanks for participating when possible to all of you. I might try to do something for thanksgiving later this month.
