Yea..my terminology was not clear and correct however, I promise to be clear and concise when the topic of possible solutions to the problems outlined is started.

I have seen it happen so very often that people will complain about lack of action, yet no reports are made along with said complaints.

We also are expected by CJ to try to keep things discreet. This I think may have backfired. I am not blaming anyone. I am noting a serious problem. It also does not help when folks try to pin all the troubles and issues on the mods. Yes, we could certainly do better, but when the very community constantly complains and criticizes while doing little to help, that does nothing but make things harder for us.

I'd love to see the forums get more active. If you post more, that would be great. If someone comes along and breaks a rule, then please report it. Don't just complain that us mods are not helping you, when you don't even take the time to make a 1 minute report. That saves us mods tons of time from reading a bunch of text that we may not be interested in.

The community needs to work with the mods, and the mods need to work with the community. Things only get much harder when folks do nothing but bicker and complain about what the other side is or is not doing. You have mentioned some of the faults of the mods, and I have mentioned some of the faults of the community. I'm willing to try to work things out and improve, so I hope the community will do the same. Neither side is blameless in this. Not me, not the mods as a whole, and not the community.

You are not listening....... in your response i see "The commujnity needs to......", "If you....", " I am pointing out a very big issue-the fact that reports are almost never made....","Things only get much harder when folks...."

All true, but all deflections. All excuses.

Again.... What is your vision? What are you going to do to fix it?

A leader provides a vision, provides the tools to achieve, Holds those accountable for falling short, and reinforces successes. The first step is provide a vision.

Mel I know enough about you to know you can succeed in this, but you need to lead, not make excuses. All of those, "but" and "if" are excuses.

Throw the excuses out and provide the vision and lead.

Again, I think term limits for the moderators is a step in the right direction.

I also have to agree on Feniks post with over 80% of his points made.
I don't want to hear excuses.

I want to see responsible forum management with common sense actions.
unfortunately, common sense means different things to different people.
For that reason Mod appointee's by vote would work. If the mod does a lousy job, they get replaced at the end of the decided term

we get it you want to mod and continue to be part of the problem
slow down killer you will burst your heart before you see your dream of becoming the tyrannical whisperer
term limits are not what the owner set up.... i know I know.... its your game because you say so
but its really not ... with all the fakes running around I'm sure you would be a shoe in
but .... no appointment you just want mels job ... no one to answer to for a term ... lol good luck
damages or butthurt received in the posting of these words is solely yours and yours alone

I've already mentioned things to do Feniks. I am listening, and am more then willing to work to solve issues. Just because I am pointing out issues-that you yourself openly admitted to being true, does not mean I am giving excuses or deflections. There are issues that need to be solved, and it will require work on both sides to do. Me bringing them up is not to excuse or deflect on things mods need to work on, it's to point out the problems the community has to work on so that both sides benefit.

Voting for mods sounds like a good idea, likewise, I think making the actions mods take when dealing with reports being more open to the community would help show that actions are taken. Do not take my points as deflection. We need to examine all the problems and fix them to better improve the forums. There are issues on both sides. I am willing to work on my side, but your side needs to work on issues as well.

I do believe with the team of mods we have we can cover the map over a 24 hours period shared.
There are 2 reports there right now.

A perfect opportunity to run through what happens now ... for the satisfaction of the community who want to be assured something will be done with their reports.

Those reports were made after I pointed out the lack of reports. Which is good- now I can view the reports, and take an action without needing to comb through all these posts looking for the issues.

And as I mentioned, I feel that the mod conduct rule of being discreet may be causing a lot of the issues. We are expected by Cj to try to keep out actions discreet when possible. Plus rules about talking about actions taken. I think this has had the nasty side effect of making it seem like reports do nothing. This is not the case- when I see a report, I do take an action. Something is always done when dealing with reports. However I do not tell the one who reported what I did, or that their report was handled most the time. Since I am expected to be discreet.

I will talk to CJ about possible changing that rule.

I am also open to the idea of mods being voted in, rather then me picking them. Again, I admit, things can be done better on the mods side. I just want to point out that the community needs to work with us as well. Both sides need to work together.

100% Mel - thats what we are doing right here right now. Thanks. :P

And this diatribe is cancer.
With that being said..
Thanks to the mods for what they do. It is not easy, never has been, and only seems more likely to be impossible to accomplish moderation in the future.
S uck it up buttercups. :D The Game is dead compared to the past, lets just start with that, rather than behavioral issues in forums. Unless the behavioral issues are the reasoning for the game being dead. What????

i disagree feniks if you say its not the peoples fault for not reporting then how can you cry lack of action
I get the whole deflecting argument but you are trying to make it a non player problem which is a whole other deflection
you want to point out problems fine but point them all out and have accountability for all

cop drives by your house as you are getting robbed
you never call the cops just say well they drove by and seen it
but they didn't see it the sun was behind you not them and they missed it
so its the policemans fault you don't report the crime because he should have seen it lol yeah they will get that culprit for sure

now we have a barely entertaining rulebreaker as recently as yesterday wanting to mod
term limits is the new do lol

I don't think there is a push to fix any problem more like create more problems with faces that are not as honest as the currently two most active mods
if your agenda is to replace mods make that what it is
but don't feed the public the idea that forums will be better because of it

forum participation changes magically because stan replaces someone pffft not likely
in order for forums to get better those who can do no wrong have to be told they are doing wrong.... not the mods

until people start naming names and instances or wrongdoing this whole ploy to make forums better is a farce to hide the fact those doing wrong don't like to be corrected and want to bypass the whole accountability thing by becoming mods

I would really enjoy hearing how selecting mods via a popularity contest is a good idea.

Couple of things with this.

1) You always seem to put a smile on my face, Tom.

2) While behavioral issues are a problem, I don't believe they are the primary reason for the diminished player base.

3) While the behavior issue is not likely to go away, there are ways to curb it or stem the effects.

4) Like you said, haters are going to hate. There is definitely some hate in this game. And for some the only thing they see is the hate.

5) While I think this topic was created with good intentions, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
I'm only here for Game Development and Forum Moderation.

I don't see it as a popularity contest dez, but rather a democratic who does a good job way of choosing mods. A mod who performs his duties well, would continually be chosen to stay as a mod, while a mod who never does anything, or worse, makes things worse would quickly be removed.

If nothing else, I think it could be worth trying out for a time. If it fails, we go back to how it is now, if it works then great. That being said, I'm open to most ideas at the moment. What works can stay and what doesn't can be removed. Voting in mods would let the community have some say if nothing else.

I would really enjoy hearing how selecting mods via a popularity contest is a good idea. ~ Dez.

Does it have to be done this way? Is it possible that if someone wants to be mod for a term they put up their hand - And if there are a few who want to have a crack, simply make a roster ??
is there a reason for it to be exclusive?
My thinking is if everyone has the opportunity to spend some time on the other side of the fence ..
A shared experience is good for growth in any community.
