Data Extraction Option

Postby Delt » Wed Dec 18, 2013 6:44 pm

I have been trying to find the most efficient way to manage the ships I have, what they need as far as points go, what level they are, etc, and have been finding it quite time consuming since I have to go into each ship to be able to see each of their points. While in game this works great, having the option to be able to possibly extract ship and fleet data into a csv file or something similar would allow for easier management of ships and fleets. When I only had 4 fleets, it wasn't that difficult, but my fleet list is a bit larger than that now.

I am envisioning something where I would be able to click on a "Download Ship list" link, and it would have check boxes asking what options I wanted for the download (Sailors, cannons, sails, iron cladding). It could be even simpler where no options were given and all of that information is just available to be uploaded to a spreadsheet and us players could then just delete the columns of information that we don't want.

I think your idea is a fine one Delt. I might use it in the future, if it was implemented, but currently I have no use for it. People with a huge fleet such as your's, Mo's, and anyone else in the top ten highest ship count, could definitely use this idea.

In the recent past, we have worked on a new feature which will summarize all assets hold by a player. This feature has a great value for administrators as we are now able to track changes in the assets of every player and detect possible cheating. We have decided to also offer it to players and we have created the necessary pages.

Here is a screenshot of the interface (interface completed but has not yet been linked, it does not yet work even for me):

There is a problem though. The particulal tool, cannot be used in mass as it is very heavy in terms of resources needed by the server. Therefore this feature will only be offered as a paid option to the public with a price of 5 credits per 45 days. The cost is symbolic as the game will give you in voodoo presents (thanks to the paying players) a lot more during the 45 days. The symbolic cost is important as the server will create reports only for people who are going to use the feature (plus suspected cheaters but still, these will not know and will not be able to see it themselves without activating it). It is a lot different to create 1,000 reports per day than creating report for everyone (right now, about 13,000). While both are doable, we always plan ahead for future growth. This can be a lot worse for 7,500 active characters (currently) or perhaps 15,000 later or even more.

We have not released it yet because we are concerned of how many players are going to use it anyway. So we gave priorities to features that people will use for sure. It is almost ready though ( a few details remain) and this tool incorporation could help with the popularity of the plus option.

Therefore, approved by me and we will try to link this with the feature I explained above. I would like to hear your feedback regardless, it helps us to always have your opinion as it helps in deciding priorities.

I forgot to add that the other tool I talked about, will also include a chart (or more) with the depth of about 45 days or more.

Yes please!! The summary pictured above would be incredibly helpful. I would pay credits to use it. A chart of the last 45 days would be even more useful. Please add this :)

Also I can't wait for banks to finally be added. :D

That page looks very useful, but through that would I be able to get an easy to view breakdown of how each of my ships is setup without having to go into each ship page? Being able to view all of the ships in a fleet at once would be very handy. It doesn't even need to be fancy. I am thinking a straight database pull that gives the raw numbers. Depending on the database being used, this might or might not be server intensive (which is one aspect I hadn't originally thought), but just the raw numbers in a CSV file should be less intensive than the page you showed us (though I am willing to pay for that).

Not loving the whole "pay for tiny feature model cause otherwise too many people will use it" rationale. How about simply make it something you have to request? The process of actually sending an application for the report will weed out 90% of frivolous requests.

To dovetail on Delt, I think what he wants is the raw numbers and he his quite capable of generating his own (more usefull) reports from there....

What you requested, of course, it is something different than the screenshot. I just found the opportunity to post it here.
