Re read the changes. 4 points required from dev team. Dez vote counts as 4 points. Even if everyone else is against it, his vote alone points meets the requirement.
Now the other 4 points can come from the playerbase.

Exame..... proposal fet a total of 20 votes from players. 4 in favor and 16 against. Dev team all vote against except dez. In this scenario the proposal is approved. Votes against do not count. It is a point system. Only 8 points required to pass no matter how many people vote.

Feniks.. It does not really matter. If I like a feature, I'll use it and if not, I won't. If enough things happen I do not like, I'll move on and if stuff appeals to me, I will use it and encourage others to play as well. What the 'team' one or many decide to propose to development will be dependent upon what they perceive the player base wants. If they miss the mark... enrollment dwindles. Hit a bulls eye and enrollment and retention rises.

I think you are completely missing my point. CJ put the dev team in place for a reason. Now, this suggestion is simply going back towards the way things were before the team was put in place. Whether or not you personally use an approved suggestion has zero bearing g on my point.

My point is the team is not needed based on the new approval rules Dez posted. All that is needed is Dez and for people from the forums to vote yes and a suggestion is approved. ..... even if 50 others vote against it dez and 4 others still enough to approve.

I joined the dev team because of something Dez said to me. He said if you want to make it better then join. So I did. Now being on the team doesn't matter.

Whether ir not you agree with the idea of a development team doesn't matter. CJ put it in place for a reason.

This now negates the reason it was put in place.

This is the point I am trying to get you to see. It may be called the development team but really, it is a steering committee subject to the desires of the developers. To further my point, try to cite a new major development that has been implemented from suggestions from this new dev team.

I'm not trying to splash cold water on the team or the concept of it. There have been hundreds or thousand's of good idea's and a few not so good ones but the game coders need to pick through the suggestions and choose what fits in with their idea of how the game should work and their vision of it.

It is their game after all.

Now, if you are afraid that a great idea is going to get voted down or Dez is going to recommend something dumb in the 'approved" list, Dez does show a good common sense and regardless, much of the cue is taken from the general forum opinion to what stays and what goes. Can't see that part changing very much.

So, development team personal director thanks-you very much for your concern in this matter and a note on your file has been made. There maybe a little extra in your pay-cheque this week to show our appreciation. :PP

On this I agree with you and I made that exact point in dev chat on slack. There has been a complete lack of understanding of the role of the development team. Not on is there a lack of understanding of the role by the player base, but a lack of understanding within the development team itself. This is due to a lack of leadership. I had to ask someone who wasn't even an official member of the team how and why on several occasions but also, what we were supposed to do. I got none of those answers from Dez. Honestly the most involved person on the Development team is Clockwork. not Dez. I may not like his gameplay or may not like him on a personal level but he has been the only guiding force in the development team.

Your points are valid, but realize that the team was formed to serve a purpose. Review and approve or reject everything in the suggestion thread to free up CJ's time to code and get ready for PG2.0.

The Development team was formed in early November of last year. Could easily have been through al suggestions by now. 10-15 a week was all it would have taken. But there were no expectations placed on team members, no guidance on what and how to review. no one was holding team members accountable. Yes it is volunteer based, but there still must be some defined expectations.

All that being said, I have not heard that the purpose for the development team has changed, only the way the approval process works. Instead of holding members accountable, the direction has gone back to what it was before formation. which means CJ's reasoning for forming the development team has been made moot.

Honestly I consider this lazinesson the part of leadership.

I didnt join the dev team because I have tired of contributing ideas and spending hours developing my ideas then arguing them in forums and either had them shot down or worse kicked far into the long grass.
I dont think my ideas have ALL been poorly thought-out or ill-considered so my conclusion is simply that I am out of sync with how others see the games future and their combined opions matter more to the devs than mine.
I may offer criticism of suggestions but I can no longer be arsed to make anything remotely approaching a positive idea cos none have succeeded in the past and why make grief for myself?
The dev team seems more of a PR exercise than a practical method of channelling ideas up to the game developer : its a gate-keeping device and if it achieves that then great.. but it lacks interest for me and I hold out little hope of it achieving any more than that.
So why worry if the voting that controls it is flawed or unfair.. its not like its doing much anyway.

I worry because I still care. That is why I am so adamant about this. I am sorry you are jaded at the process, but "stepping back", observing and waiting to see what happens, does absolutely nothing to change things..... a lesson someone else should learn.

I am not stepping back to sit down observing and waiting.. I am just doing what interests me in the game and trying to actively ignore the rest as being not worth my time getting concerned over. And when there is nothing here to do I go play another game and its true I gind myself spending more and more time there. No doubt that drift will continue until I just stop logging in completely but thsts what happens when you get jaded and feel a game has stopped being fun and your previous efforts to keep it fun and interesting have been disregarded but the dull and annoying stuff keeps being implemented.

Feniks...we all care to greater and lesser degree's. not long ago Admin mentioned a long term vision for how PG is going to go. He was very precise in saying it was a long ways off but that vision is what both you and I want I think.. ?? More diverse battles and more variables affecting battles. I think this is where the game is headed although it has and will be a long slow process.
Many of the pre-conditions have been met I think such as player generated goods and a free open market on almost all things in the game although some are incomplete such as nation /diplomacy sub-routines.

They can be filled in after the big 2.0 jump arrives. Same thing with the Pirate Flagship. So many possibilities will come to be that making big changes now might mean undoing them later. CJ hates to un-do anything. Many of these approved changes may never make it into the game just because the main dynamic has and is going to continue to change
