A person that uses a howker to plunder, should not be as "known" as the guy that uses 4 Man of War to plunder folk; obviously you would gain more with the Man of War and lose less.

I agree with part of that.

If you plunder with a SOTL or MoW the fame you plunder should be higher, but it should be counteracted by what you plunder. If you are plundering a fleet of howkers, the fame you plunder should not be as much as plundering a fleet of LMMs.

+1.

Might be 'defined' Fame Plunder Each Ship if you win the battle/Fame Loss per ship if you lose the battle. (Sotl vs Howker)

Fame gained from using Sotl: 10,000. Against 1 howker: 5,000.
Fame gained using Sotl vs Sotl: 35,000.

Then for example, 2.5% off the players fame. (Random example.)

Stan Rogers did propose a idea elsewhere in which the relative strengths of the opposing fleets governed fame gain/loss. I tend to agree with him : a SotL fleet beating a trade fleet is no big thing and doesnt warrant any kind of major fame gain. But a SotL fleet beating a MoW fleet does : thats punching above its weight and should bring fame and glory to its owner. I'd favor a system which rewarded success according to such a relative measure... not one governed by how many ships might be sailing 5 ports away.

This.. This right here!

A pirate needs to be smart. Yes voodoo helps. But there are several times where I am hitting SOTL fleets with a Sloop of War or Frigate. Or when Vane took a MoW with a single cutter. :O: (he almost screwed it up too. lol )
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

Exactly.. such acts are feats of glory and should generate more fame than is currently given for twatting an unarmed howker fleet aside...

yeah I agree that ship types should affect fame loss or gain. And depending on what they take on should affect it too.
Maybe something like a multiplier affect.
Fighting a ship on its level(so a brig vs brig) is no change.
Fighting above its level could be like 10% gain,
Below could be a 10% hit.
Maybe another hit/bonus for trade ships fighting war ones, since I think it would be quite a story for a group of merchantmen to beat a fleet of brigs.
I'm a meanie head! Beware my Meanness :arr
