Black scratches his head for a second.

I remember Thelma telling me about when they invented teleportation, they also invented a way to block it. Something about touching the person who is trying to teleport's temples. Maybe it will come to me later.

Zeph laughs

Invented teleportation my arse. I mean, I've heard some tall tales, but trying to take credit for that! There's a lot of debate in the magic communities over who came up with it since it's been around for ages, some say it was Ragnild the wise, others give that credit to Agrat Bat Mahlat mistress of all sorceress. A few folks swear it was my ancestor Enrika, though that's a misconception-she just came up with making stable portals. Not the whole concept itself.

She sighs

Anyway, no, holding her temples won't stop her from teleporting. Veera has spent a lot of time making sure that she can teleport out of any situation, regardless of restrictions. She knew that if she wanted to cause trouble, she needed to be able to leave asap if need be. So she made sure to train her skill to a insane degree. Best bet is to kill or disable her in an instant. Though easier said then done.

Well I suppose that does sound a bit made up come to think of it. But they said that using this technique you could prevent even the most powerful witches and wizards from teleporting. You know what, why don't we ask them?

Black spins a dial on a small square object. Moments later, Marla and Thelma appear in front of them.

Oh, hi Blackthorn.

Marla glares at him.

What do you want?

Black looks up for a second.

You had once mentioned how to temporarily block someone from teleporting. You know Veera. She has gone and started a cult. Every time we confront her she teleports away. We need to be able to immobilize her teleportation just for a brief moment while we do away with her permanently.

Thelma's face lights up.

We hate Veera. Last time we saw her she covered us in sticky goo. Took 3 days to clean off.

Marla speaks.

The way teleportation works, is that there is a network of non-physical energy streams. To teleport, one must detach themselves from the physical world and catch one of the energy streams. This means all you have to do to prevent someone from teleporting is keep them in the physical world. Some people do this by firing bullets at the targets, but the most effective way in the clamp onto their temples and not let go. No one can get past it. Not even Veera. I know it sounds fake, but I should know. I invented teleportation.

With that, the two disappear.

Very well, Alex. This way. The steel giant left the tunnel, heading down the third one to the right. There, waiting, was a party of 3 ogres, carrying stone clubs.

Black pulls his pistol from its holster.

Wait, I'm out of ammo. I'll have to pick some up later. For now, I'll have to do this dirty as possible.

He pulls his sword from it's sheath and walks over to the three ogres.

Why, hello there. My name is Tom Blackthorn. Nice to meet you.

He swings his sword and cuts off the first ogre's head.

Aww, why did you have to go so soon?

He stabs the second one in the stomach, then kicks it three times in the face before it collapses to the floor.

I fixed your stomach ache.

The last one he stabs in the throat.

Zeph ignores what the 2 witches said and just thinks to herself

Okay, teleporting isn't exactly my strong suit, but I'm pretty sure there are multiple ways one can teleport. Maybe they just invented that energy stream way.

She follows and watches the ogres die. From further in, she see's several ragged women, holding what appears to be babies. The women look very underfed, and look like they are barely able to stand. She stops and thinks for a moment.

Huh. Weird. Feel like I'm forgetting something.

The women look up to them one say's in a tired hoarse voice

Please, can you noble folks hold our infants so we do not drop them. We are very tired.
