I sure hope Shadow keeps close track this round. I think the last round he made some sort of 100 mil gc error. I forget the details but I did feel sorry for him :hh

Clockwork wrote:The captains were a hard choice to figure out, as I had a theme I set which was: have shown their ability in battle, with 1 or more different ways apparent. This includes ship stealing abilities, port retention and stealing skills, guild warfare, and, to some degree, notoriety for it.

Many of the previous captains had all of these characteristics, so finding more with this criteria was a bit difficult.. I approached Jim Hawkins, Admiral Nelson, Tom Lowe, dmanwuzhere, EdwardTeach, Lordav, Taylor, Danik, Wally, DTT, Argonaut, And SilverShadow, as well as our current selected 5 captains. I didn’t want to choose myself as much as possible, as I didn’t see it very subtle to auto make myself a captain. After consulting a few of these players, I tried to find a back-up Captain, but none could guarantee a defined YES to do it, in case what happened last draft were to occur, so I made the decision to be the back up captain. I didn’t want a backup captain or a regular captain to have been a captain in the past.

I did not consult the other captains in the selection process, however I did consult Meliva and a few other players for advice on a theme for the picks the captains had to follow, as well as a few rules to spice up the actual draft itself. That’s where you may have noticed the first rule on the spoiler, where the first few rounds couldn’t be picked 5 previous times in the draft. This was a flexibility rule I consulted the captains, as well as Dez, Haron, and Mel. Haron originally came to me out of the blue with an idea to get different players picked as a suggestion rather the same ole SHM and CDV always picked. I took that idea and consulted with the captains and staff, and after some good discussion and math, we came to the idea of that lil spicy rule. This allowed some new variety, while not also restricting the captains picks too much.

Also, these captains have a theme for their picks. I also consulted a few outside players and volunteers, and refined it to a more vague theme, to allow players to get creative with their picks.

I didn’t want to blatantly announce or give away the draft, as it was meant to be a surprise. Shadow had real life get in the way, and most of the player base believed the draft to be halted or stopped completely. I wanted to surprise the community with the news. If I had announced earlier, I wouldn’t have been able to pull off a surprise as much as I could have.

Does this answer your question fully?

It does answer that question..... If i read it right..... you chose the theme.... you chose the captains without community input and you went against all prior precedent of announcing things a month or more in advance? Is this Correct? If I remember correctly The date of the draft was usually announced anywhere from 3-6 weeks in advance? This allowed the community to have input into any possible changes that would make the draft "better" than the last. A way to help improve the experience.

IF I understand correctly, you made all those decisions yourself instead of letting the community have input as previously done in order to ........ surprise???? Could you please elaborate a bit more on why you thought the "surprise was more important than community imput?

I also have 4 other questions pending all relating to the OP. Please address those as well when you have time.

I’ll probably have to edit this a few times to elaborate on the questions.

To not announcing a month in advance...

The end of the year is coming, and seeing as this draft is typically twice a year, I personally believed it to fit into the end of the year better and quicker, if I handled the theme and captains on my own. Yes, I do understand it contradicts the community aspect to this draft, however I didn’t want to drag this draft into next year if I could prevent it. Plus, this is a difficult time of the year, with Christmas and everything going on soon, then New Years, everyone will be worn out afterwards.

The surprise itself was only based on the community assumption that Shadow could not do another one this year. I’m not on a total time crunch like what happened with the last draft, that’s gunna be prevented as much as I can make it.

However, I did not want to rush the draft either. This is when I began to reach out for the advice on themes for the picks, forum mod assistance, and general discussion with the captains on some special rules to spice up things and make it more interesting.

With some outside input and calculations, that’s the community input I wanted to emphasize with the rush I had to sacrifice for the theme and captain choices.

There were a few captain picks I really hoped would say yes. I do understand not everyone wants to be a captain. I knew Banger would look forward to it. He was the first I asked :)

Does this answer your question Feniks?

You know he will just keep adding more questions until your choice of sock colour will be dissected to prove bias.
Just throw the draft back at him. Walk away. Its a game and not worth this boring shyte.
