I won't lie, martial arts training will help in certain situations. Of course, that training in other situations will be ineffective. Reality isn't like the movies, where folks like Jackie Chan, or Bruce Lee can take on whole groups of people and come out the winner.
Even just 5 people, could more then likely take on any 1 person. While you're facing down one or 2 of the group, a third guy could just smash a pipe into the back of your head. Would be hard to keep fighting after that.
My dad actually told me a somewhat sad story, about some little chicken weasel ticking off about 3 or 5 guys, memory's foggy, somehow the little weasal managed to convince them to let him get his real tough dad to make it more fair, yet he actually came back with his dad rather then just leave. Well the dad was doing pretty well til he got smashed in his head in the back with a board, weasel ran and left him and the guys beat the man half to death.
Course, that could have just been my dad making up a story to teach a lesson, or he misremembered too, but the point remains.
