Those are some poor comparisons to guns honestly. With all of those examples, simply screwing up building them can be deadly-if someone screws up making a gun, it won't fire, or worst case might blow up in your hand if you shoot it or misifre. Someone mess up setting a gas line, could cause an explosion. Mess up electric device could electrocute someone or start a fire. Mess up a aircraft or vehicle can cause a crash. So a lot of the regulations involved in those issues revolve around building them safely, making sure they work properly, that no issues might pop up. So of course tons of regulations get added. How many of those regulations however are in regard to limiting who can purchase or access these things?

I do agree that simply saying "guy was just nuts" isn't helpful to mass shootings. There were bound to be multiple factors involved. Best thing we can do is try identify, then try to remove and limit factors that lead people to shootings. Off the top of my head some factors would be bullying, depression, and abuse. Course we can't identify and remove every factor, but we should at least try to do so and limit whatever we can't remove.

You know, I am Catholic but i dont ever really practice, and i hate to say it in the ether, but i think a big problem is the lack of religion in youth today. Bare with me, even with all religions faults, the one thing it did do was bring the promise of hell and eternal damnation if you killed others or yourself and the inverse was to live forever in heaven if you did well.

With social media being the new "religion", these people look for salvation and fame online without the consequences of Hell to keep them from acting out these atrocities. Now they go commit these crimes, off them selves and live forever online and in these conversations.

Oh and Danik, you could be right about "blaming" all those reasons as red herrings, but by your logic, so is blaming guns. "That person lost their mind, there were signs, they were abused, they were bullied when they were 6, ban guns from everyone else, its monday." Yeah your right, all BS :D

Catholicism only ever promised hell and damnation for killing the 'wrong' people. Few religions have ever had much issue with killing those who dont practice it, or deny it or prefer a different deity or plain go about worshipping the same gods and prophets but just in the 'wrong' way. Catholicism has a long history of burning those it found to be 'ungodly' or heretical. Odd fact, burning was fine but drawing blood was not. Go figure but they had an ethical position over the difference.

As one dragged up in such a faith it may have provided a veneer of civilised behaviour but it was rotten beneath it and carried little more moral value than a stale biscuit.

Catholicism isnt the only 'offender' in that regard. Protestants have not shrunk from piling up the firewood either. Nor have many other faiths worldwide.

Which does not mean there are no good people of faith, just that being a person of faith is no guarantee of moral or ethical virtue.

Edit-and look at Australia- most of their major massacres are caused by folks doing alternative methods. Like that nursing home fire that killed about 14 people If memory is serving me correctly. If not, I'll whip my memory for being faulty :D

Yes..alternative methods bc we dont all have guns at the ready. You can have guns here. Licences, cabinets and I think you have to belong to a club or be 'visible' in some way...primary producers, sports etc and no licences if history convictions of violence etc Someone with a conviction for a small amount of pot for example would not be able to get a licence.

No need for whippin, ... I think this might be to what you are referring...

Childers Palace Backpackers Hostel fire 23 June 2000 Childers, Queensland 15 Arson attack by Robert Paul Long, which killed 15 international backpackers.

Recently noted over here the 20th anniversary of this.

In relation to gun control I think this makes good points and sums up the majority of metallity of those around me, other then those who live primarly off the land for survival, uncommon these days but some till do. It may also help to clarify the prospective from someone from the outside looking in.

unless you are an extreme islamic believer who can claim a beheading yesterday
using the crusades and other killings forever ago has no bearing unless the religion is still doing it today

i dont subscribe to religion because i break some rules as often as i like and since seeking forgiveness over and over knowing i will do it again
doesnt sit right with the whole forgiveness thing i juust dont bother but i do see the value it has in society to better people within its embrace

of course it frowns on killing homosexuality and a myriad of other behaviors so i understand your cynicism and pessimistic outlook danik
how dare a religion tell you that you are wrong...

but at the end of the day a school shooter or a pregnant woman who was irresponsible during sex would have a higher chance of not committing murder if they subscribed to a religion
damages or butthurt received in the posting of these words is solely yours and yours alone
if counseling is needed therapist ahben buthert or cryin ferdays is available at the tp kleenex & creme clinic

Tell me what guns are used for other than to inflict harm onto other things?

target practice
hunting- yeah it kills the animal but i guess your hammered in the head beef is waaaay better
self defense

alcohol which provides the catalyst that turns a car into a killer also harms and kills people in huge numbers yearly just by over consumption
but like guns we depend on the person making the decision to be a consumer to be a responsible citizen
people are killed by knives even a mass murder by hammer when a woman killed her husaband and two kids with one
but we dont blame inanimate objects for deaths we blame people which is why we have a justice system for the irresponsible people

how many people killed would be considered a mass murder in the US?

these brats wanna kill someone for making fun of them and suddenly its the guns fault

i fought in school and some of my best friends came from those fights
respect was earned by winning or losing and most of the time a suspension could be avoided by an apology and a handshake
now they grow up with no respect and wanna kill for it

but the irony of it all is when i hear someone petition against guns due to kids killed but support abortion ... hypocrite much
seems like some abortion tools are due for banning lol

Abortion is neccesary though in some cases like say the mother is in danger and could die if she has the baby. If the mother dies the child could die before it is born but if you do abortion then you could save the mother but not the child
