you can research the why and there are several reasons most of which were outside the soldiers control

but say what you will about us soldiers but at the end of the day our special forces are utilized in crises everywhere
i have yet to hear australia say they will go get bin laden or any target with their special forces

while i dont take anything from any soldier as they can only fight as well as the mind leading them
you could drop 100 of anyones crack soldiers in the middle of the desert with 5 snipers hidden somewhere and watch the slaughter

battles are determined more often than not by the leaders choices so take your aussie snobbery and go into the bush yourself instead
of trying to determine how your soldiers are better

show me a thousand of any armed forces members who can catch a nuke if you cant they are all ill prepared and even ;)

Dman that is EXACTLY what I said about nukes, nobody can really defend from them. Australia was not a major threat in Vietnam because we could not sustain enough troops and I literally said we couldn't make a big impact because we had too little troops. I know that your Special forces is used everywhere since you have more Special forces and all different kinds Like Australia has the SAS and Commandos and you guys have Seals, whatever your airborn troops are, Green Berets, Delta Force etc (may have gotten some muddled up so don't get angry since I don't follow that stuff). Also isn't Bin Laden dead? You guys went to kill him since you had more resources available. I'm also again aware that Leaders matter also. I'm also aware that there were some great examples of you defeating the Viet Cong and PAVN troops and that's great. But however we were more suited to jungle warfare most Australian soldiers did not wear helmets reducing noise, painted their faces with camo paint (you guys did that too I think), sometimes rarely spoke during patrols using hand signals (think you guys did that too) and we could get closer to enemy positions before they noticed. We also had higher morale since new American soldiers would split up after landing in Vietnam and going into a different unit than their friends sometimes whilst we came in whole units. Of course this is not true all the time. Pretty sure the amount of conscripts in each unit was higher also leading to lower morale. Also I'd say we had more experience fighting in Jungle from WW2 in New Guinea, Borneo and Malaya later. We were also better at ambushing and less prone to getting ambushed ourselves.

I'm not sure why you think long range missiles are the only form of possible attack? How far is Indonesia from Darwin? lol Also attack can be many forms.

The great Emu debacle - lol - well as Mel said, not a fair example...lol funny tho.

"like April fools or something even though we don't have that here. " - you sure you actually live here?

We should listen to our experts and go from there with any decision making. But one must consider progress proves time and time again through research and advancements that often our original ideas are entirely wrong. eg - eggs/chocolate/milk are bad for you....screen time is bad for your kids...or yes...not long ago they thought the earth was flat - (some still do which I find very odd indeed)...the point being...the more we learn the less we know...and the more we need to discover. Listening to 'experts', yes. Complying with and implementing what they say because they are "an expert". No way.

(Believe it or not - I have some things I can do regarded as 'expert' but I still make mistakes and I would never assume to know it all and have all the answers bc someone declared me an expert!). I am willing to add to my knowledge tho and take the path of least resistance if I can find it that is-lol

You have to look at history. What I'm saying is true. Advancements reveal misunderstandings or erroneous thinking. It happens every day all the time in all areas of research, especially medicine.

I agree with dman. Australia is little brother or cousin or whatever - as I said...we are good at what we do. We just wouldn't have the numbers to go alone. That's what alliances are for.

I see what you mean with everything but we don't really have April fools at least in Victoria where I live.[/quote

What? Stop please...LOL

I have family and friends in Victoria. I have lived in Victoria. Last time I was there 2015 for April 1st, after waking up late, I was asked to grab the milk from out the front. The driveway to the milk delivery box was about 50 meters. They know I hate the cold. It was pouring with rain, blowing a gale and it was freezing. They had already collected the milk. Duh...Lucky for them, my hot tea was ready by the fire when I returned...

The kids were committing pranks even here in SA just this year...but only until midday. After that its bad luck. Or so I'm told.

So maybe just not at your house :D

our special forces rarely depend on numbers and in fact normally function in smaller numbers due to the shock and awe of a small well trained force with great intel and super plans
vietnam was fed teenagers fresh out of school to keep up with demand so the training was not as good as it should have been
and of course bin laden is supposedly dead (i dont trust obama) that was not the point
we had civilians hopping planes to go after the reward on his head
i dont recall any news about aussie special forces planning a coup on the man

most of my fam have been marines and i buried a fifth cav korean war vet not so long ago his ferocity in old age was admirable
he had an electric hoist installed in the ceiling above his bed and toilet so he could remain independent and utilized them so he didnt have to have help getting in and out of his wheelchair at either placement

i have far less respect for current military training due to time out cards
if a drill sergeant is in your face hollering you can opt out of the convo with a time out card
fookin politically correct bs has infiltrated the armed forces with feeling cadets who must have an out in tense situations
im wondering if any future opponents will welcome them in any future wars

that aside i have great respect for our american military it is a beast that cant be tamed
and despite political lines always has willing recruits eager to represent our nation
damages or butthurt received in the posting of these words is solely yours and yours alone

yeah I know special forces does not work in large groups but your special forces has more resources and possibly better intelligence and since we have such a small amount of soldiers we can deploy quickly why would we try and do it ourselves straining our more limited resources since you guys are willing and more than able to catch and kill him at the time

vaping is rhe better carcinogen-free method to receiving nicotine ... been at it for years now
the cool thing is the ability to have great flavors and not stinking like a butt also you can control your nicotine intake

as for socialism it will never be introduced fully as long as we have well over 200 million guns and 12 trillion rounds of ammo we the people are an army thats hard to beat

Kinda assumes socialists can not also own guns. After all the most produced firearm ever is the AK47... now, who was it who built them?
