That is true and a great idea! I like how your your thinking, there is no right or wrong and the answer is in the middle :) Now we just have to figure out where to put the new nuclear plants and wind farms since no one wants them in their back yard.

Also, with all the solar fields and wind farms needed will we need to be cut down forests or farm lands will need to be bought and converted. But we will need to find out how to increase crop yields to make up for it without GMO plants since you want all organic farms that require more space and clean water for the same output, which means we will be drawing on the aquafers more so drinking water may be an issue so we will have to filter more water for people. You cant just make a huge field in Arizona to supply NY, the way electricity works, the farther away the source the more electricity you need to get it to you due to line drop and so on and so on. But most people who write bills dont know that :)

What i like about this conversation blue, is your a smart guy, and when you "think" you have great ideas! But this is just a few of the issues that may come up when looking at the green new deal or trying to make such drastic changes quickly vrs. changing organically. (slowly over time due to market conditions)

Great idea, thats not how it works. If your bucket holds 1 gallon does it matter if you fill the bucket over 5 hours with one gallon of water or in one hour with 1 gallon of water? Still once again, i love that your thinking! When Edison was asked about the 2000 failures making a lightbulb, he said those werent failures, he found 2000 ways how NOT to make a light bulb :)

Although a big waist is the chargers you sit your phone on. While convenient, they are induction chargers and induce a voltage into the phone by the phone breaking its magnetic field. Waists alot of energy vrs. direct connection.

Ahh, but with the phone chargers, I was saying make the battery last longer. That means for it to use less energy, not for the battery to hold more.

To make the battery last longer you need to increase storage (no change in power consumption) or decrease the power usage of the phone (thats the answer)

I love it.... -----single tear is running down cheek------ See, buddy, anyone can go run through the streets screaming and franticly yelling hashtags they heard that day to look like they give a shart, but only the ones who look for real solutions, with realistic expectations, looking at all possible outcomes, are actually taken seriously and make real change!

1. I am trying to come up with "real" solutions, because this will most likely be my future.

2. Don't call me buddy, bud.

Don't call me pal, friend...

Actually now that I think about it, wind isn't the only way to spin a turbine. Remember those water mills that appear on Old Dutch potato chip bags? Those mills generate power, too.

I am anti-dam because they often destroy the ecosystem around them. But a water mill is innocent. They could be placed in sections of water that are already in use, such as near and around factories. They don't take up very much space and I can't think of any way that they harm the environment.

Dont call me friend, buddy :)

I love the idea of water mills ad power, they have been repurposing mills in New England doing just that, its great! But, because of water way regulations, you can really make any very easily due to fish and wildlife habitat groups.

I wonder if that has to do with how easy it would be to kill someone with a water mill. I can think of like 5 movies... :D

Ever since I've been alive I've been trying to figure out some way to access perpetual energy. At first thought it seems so easy. "Just give a car a little bit of gas, then step on it and connect the wheels to a turbine. Then it can power itself!" The more I learned the more I started to realize that this kind of energy could not be achieved given the technology that we have. Even with an idea that seems so simple like the car one I just gave there are outside forces like friction and air resistance that would slowly bleed out the energy until you would need to give it another artificial boost.

Lord Mustache wrote:Nuclear energy is great for renewable energy but we need to find a way to make it as safe as possible. We want to prevent more catastrophic events like the Fukushima Daiichi meltdown and Chernobyl.

I think that we should use a hybrid of wind, sun and nuclear energy so that if one fails we will have two others to back us up while we fix the problem.

I don't think we should dump nuclear waste in Antarctica, but rather defuse it and recycle it.

Fukushima and Chernobyl are outliers. Safety protocols protect nuclear power from having a disaster like Chernobyl, a disaster of such is unlikely to happen. Fukushima was built on a fault line on the ocean in the 1960s-1970s, prior to Chernobyl. The safety protocals learned from Chernobyl and 3-Mile Island have drastically increased safety for nuclear power. Fukushima was a matter of poor design location. Nuclear power is the the safest, most cost efficient, and most reliable power generation out there.
