Just like just because a good person appoints someone doesn't mean that person is a good. HItler was a monster yes. He did however have at least one thing I agree with, and you probably do too. He believed in animal rights and conservation. Now that doesn't magically make that a bad thing does it?

That doesn't make it a bad thing, although if someone is as evil as he was then you should be skeptical about any belief they have. And really his belief in animal rights means squat when you also believe in the eradication of an entire race.

Actually I was sorta joking. I doubt that Hitler ever would have nominated anyone even close to Abe Lincoln.

I haven't put much thought into weather or not a president should be able to nominate someone at the end of their term. For me it seems like it would make sense for the answer to be no, but I haven't thought that hard about it, which is why I said that I would "probably" agree with what the republicans were initially saying.

It is kinda strange that there are no requirements to become a justice of the supreme court.

Lord Mustache wrote:I don't understand what the problem is. In 2016 I think it was republicans blocked Obama's pick solely because it was the end of his term. Supposedly not because of their beliefs. If they were able to block a president's pick based on that, then that would be obstruction of justice.

Now that they agree with the president's pick, they support it.

It's extremely hypocritical.

Mel, from what I understand, the reason to let the incoming president pick the nominee is to give Americans the chance to decide who they want as a justice. I don't feel super strongly on this, but it does make a little sense to me.

I would not trust anyone that Hitler would appoint :D

Side note, Abe Lincoln is over credited. Sure he did end slavery, but he had some pretty awful beliefs. Don't let one good act gloss over the rest.

any president can nominate anyone to the court
regardless of what excuse they gave obama the senate can tell the pres no and its the end of the story
pelosis threat of impeachment to block would actually be obstruction as she stated she would use it to make the senate close (it takes a crime not a temper tantrum to make impeachment legit)
a president nominating is part of his duty
and confirmation hearing or none is the senates duty (they are not obligated to confirm even within the party)
so please define your sillybuster of a vote on it being obstruction i gotta hear this :D

oh yeah i notice old abe is still tarnished despite ending slavery but old sanger is a saint smh at dems double standards

Never mind.

I don't care much for Pelosi.

I will say this: The senate currently has an unreasonable amount of power. The fact that one person (the SML) who isn't the president can single-handedly stop a bill from becoming a law is disturbing. That means that no matter what everyone else thinks, if Mitch doesn't like it, he can block the senate from voting on it like he did with the Green New Deal. I don't know about you, but I think that needs to be changed.

and currently the dems are in control of the money and have held americans hostage as pawns against republicans
thats how it goes

if both parties were reasonable there would be negotiations but pelosi and crew (not all dems just a radical handful) refuse to negotiate it is simply do what we want or the american purse stays closed

it is what it is and thats why voting gives one group more or less power over different things
if the people are upset with one party or another it will show in the votes or at least thats the idea
obviously with mail in votes being so fraudulant it will be a toss up imo and not a true reflection of voters

allegations are in fact not a confirmation of guilt for the individuals however the fact remains ballots were illegally rejected and thrown away by someone

First off the Pelosi statement is the best thing you have said on here to date :D

Second the green new deal is a turd sandwich. Not only is it an idea built by people who have no idea about energy or business beyond what you read under a Snapple cap, i feel like people actually got dumber just by reading it.

This bill, that read closer to a national lampoon movie than anything legit would bankrupt the country and send the economy into a death spiral till some dictator took the lead and ... well you know the rest.

A. Turd sandwich or not, no bill should be able to be blocked from being voted on

B. Most of the people who don't like the green new deal never actually read it, but rather watched some news commentator "sum it up". It could be that you did actually read the entire thing and hold that opinion, but when I heard everyone insulting it I just had to read it - and to my surprise - found nothing all that "turdy" about it.

Blue, you are honestly rather naive, quite young, overly optimistic, rather short sighted, and probably have little knowledge or experience in matters of business, law, energy and other important topics regarding a major bill like the green new deal.

So, I don't think any of us put much stock in the fact that you didn't find it turdy, while the rest of us did. That bill was awful. through and through.

regardless of that, you know who has even more power then the senate majority leader regarding bills and laws? The president. He can easily veto bills the senate sends him. Should he not have that power? Bills and laws are meant to be difficult and hard to pass. They need to be forced to go through several channels. This sometimes doesn't work out and good laws might not be passed. But I'd much rather laws be hard to make then easy. Give governments too many powers or responsibilities rarely ends well.

But Mitch McConnell has been using that power just to make it so that America is just how he wants it. A veto by the president is non-withstanding, and can be countered by a re-vote. No one person should be allowed to decide whether or not a bill passes, besides maybe the president.

Question: What do you find so awful about the green new deal? Could you quote a piece of it and then tell me why that's bad?
