A weak theory. Nothing ever appeared in nature until... it appeared. Coronavirus is a mutation, of the same ilk as the mutations of all the influenza strains are. Which is kinda by definition not seen in nature before. Thats why we struggle every year to produce a useful flu jab to protect the vulnerable. Its why this strain is so nasty, we never had the opportunity to develop resistance to it. Once we do, oft called 'herd immunity', and develop vaccines then it will subside into a nuisance same as other flu strains. Until the next mutation occurs.
Its not alone in mutating : lots of viruses do. Thing is 99 mutations might not mean a thing to us. The hundredth kills us.

If it was deliberately manufactured : not only unproved but dismissed by some of the smarter minds in that field of research, then why release it? Seems a bit of a daft way to cull a population. Far too random and uncontrollable and why wreck your internal economy in the doing of it?
So, even if the Chinese Politburo fancied that as a solution to over-poulation or an unbalance population there are far more effective and contrable means at hand.

An accidental release? Unlikely but not impossible. A Brit lab managed to release live Foot and Mouth into its own drains a few years back. Which is why research labs have to follow recognised international rules these days. Rules and practices which are audited and monitored. So, possible but first the labs would have to be researching that strain at the time or prior to it showing up and the audits would show that. They dont.

But we should never discount the final theory. Aliens!

new viruses are not created by eating animals with other viruses. Although some can be transmitted that way.

New viruses are created as they self mutate to survive and become a new strain.

I personally believe it is a lab created virus.
There are many reasons to do so.
Some are nefarious, some are for positive research purposes.

Accidentally releasing the virus is bad.
But could happen if you created something much more contagious than expected.

Intetional release for any reason is unnaceptable and
Hopefully is not the case. However still possible.

Eating an animal which is harboring a mutated virus carries the risk that the particular new mutation can cross species. There is a reason we can eat raw beef steak but not bacon. Pigs carry more transferable to humans nasties than cows do. Cross-species infection is the big scary monster for pandemics.

I reckon the whole truth will be uncovered in a few years. The amount we dont know about this bug reduces each day.

But whatever the truth is, gonna be folk out there banging the conspiriwacky drum regardless.

they keep finding more and more cases of fraud with the numbers of cases, the way they count the deaths... still the numbers dont compare with the friggin flu! how is the nation in this shape over that nothingness.. open your eyes

that's because it has a higher death rate but slightly less infection rate. Also it's a new disease so if it suddenly mutates and becomes deadlier and more infectious we can't defend or contain it because we have no vaccine

the mortality rate is out of proportion due to false reports like dieing from a heart attack while being covid positive, thats now death by covid. so sorry youre to lazy to research

sometimes it's actually undercounted because of exactly what you said except for the other way around like you had a heart attack but did not die from it and died from Covid instead. It isn't an everyones going to die pandemic but it is a reasonably big one that can potentially get bigger which is why some countries are being cautious. I bet China has also hid some Covid deaths from everyone also to play down the problem

The strain does not appear in nature but that does not mean that it was manufactured. It just means that it came to being through some sort of human interaction. It could have been someone decided to eat a bat. We don't know enough to say for sure.

And no, it isn't a theory since it hasn't been tested in a lab. Usually only scientists make theories. It is a hypothesis.

At the time the virus showed up China was involved in a very nasty spat with Hong Kong.
The first I heard of the virus was when the people of Hong Kong started to get sick - errrr

No-one seems to remember this - I wonder if the release...oops...sorry...
I wonder if the arrival of the covid19 disease is any coincidence...it didn't seem to be to me at the time....or maybe I'm a just a little too cynical and suspicious these days...?
