Such players would normally have a Mindbar up, to which this can be blocked by such. ( Just added )

I still dont like it : its the unknown nature of the cast that bothers me : undercover, yes, so you know 'some-one' is hunting you : but to have no inkling at all.. thats too much.

Surely though, if you knew someone would cast that would give the 'opportunity' to change before its too late?

Perhaps what you suggest, could be implemented adding strategy into the cast so you know the players 'active times'

i have no opinion on this voodoo card proposal yet.

but a set of cards that provide the receiver of the voodoo a generic message: "someone/player ID# used dark magic to look into your secrets..."

this message could be triggered by spy, trade master, crystal, insight etc. you, know that something has evil intentions, but what did he learn? this message could be used for this card as well.
imo a nice balance between warning the receiver and masking the nature of the intrusion.

I feel Goldsmiths have enough risk to be dealing with and having to accommodate those risks and still try to make some profit to repay the enormous investment required : the smith has to make some profit somewhere : a single upgrade takes almost 700 days to pay for itself ; that's 700 days of profit being made from 24/7 operation and trading the product : every loss, or any downtime, stretches that period out even longer : add this into the mix and add the cost of 24/7 mindbars, counters to protect the bar itself : and power fleets to ship them and that pay-back period becomes even longer again : to the point one must ask 'whats the point of it?' A social service for pirates and skirmishers? the game requires gold bars to be made by players and shipped, sold and used by players : we are told more uses are yet to be introduced for gold bars : does it then make any sense for the production to be a profitless enterprise for those who undertake it? I know some may feel that the very clothes a merchant or trader stands up in rightfully belong to any who care to plunder them : but back to the old saw : 'No pirate ever got rich robbing poor merchants'

I agree with Danik. Singling out gold bar fleets will give too much to the skirmishers.

I actually thought I found a card with this ability some months ago, but it turns out "rotten food" does not report what type of goods it destroys.

You chose to make the goldsmith though; You knew it would carry risks...

Like I chose the Pirate life; I knew of the risks...

However I see your point, so I -1 it.

I built the goldsmith when there were possibilities of making it work : since then we have a stream of measures to reduce that possibility and make it easier for others to grab a chunk of the profit : if it was day one of hide-outs now, I wouldn't even build a lvl1 GS.. no point at all.

too bad there is no hide-out building auction; what would you sell a lvl 15 goldsmith for? :chest

A while back, Capt Dungeness ran the 'Gravy Train', as I called it : he used the then fame rules to keep his fleets running non-stop ; each night, after reset, all his fleets lit up and it was feeding time : a good 10 mil or more each night was plundered until he dropped under the fame bar and his fleets could then earn good coin all day unseen no matter how much danger they gained. So, a daily 10 mil of plunder for any pirate who cared to go collect it : and they did. But were they happy? Oh No.. loud complaints that he was cheating by using the fame bar and was illegally stopping them stealing his ships : that was it, they didnt just want all his coin, they wanted his fleets too. So, thye chiselled away, complaining and arguing until the fame bar was removed : Hurrah! Now they could steal his ships too! Um.. no.. the Gravy Train stopped running : no ships to steal, and no daily 10mil plunder either.

Always be careful what you wish for.
