The real question now, is this suggestion enough to persuade someone to pull his warfleet out? Hiw MoW? Are 12 hours of special protection enough?

This needs to be answered by individuals.

Addiction = Loss of self control.
Something your generation has a problem with.
Addicted to the ability to shout your opinions on social media without really listening.
Listening is an art.
You cannot control your own actions even to benfit yourself.
You have proven this time and time again.
Believe it or not, the restart button is man made.
You seem to think its an ordained act of God.
Consequences are reality, even in this game.

You are free to choose,
But not free from the consequences of your choice.

This situation is exactly that.
We now have the consequences of nobody running the ships you so desire. :pirateflag

Honestly... No

The ships will still be stolen. This alone is not enough to bring them out. They still need an important use.

Just my opinion
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

The reason it should not be too hard to steal SoLs are not only because pirates need this option. It is also necessary to make traders carry heavier purses to protect their big ships - which, in turn, makes ordinary plunder more profitable. Of course, it is also because stealing ships is already more than difficult enough, and one of the more exciting things to do (one of the things that keep our guild members in the game).

It is like the existence of the commandeer card. It's not that we use that card to steal ships a lot, it's that the mere existence of such a card prevents people from keeping ships safely out of fleets (although I have commandeered a SoL once, I guess the exception that confirms the rule). Likewise, the fact that we can steal SoLs make traders carry more gold, gold that would otherwise be 100% safe in their banks.

I dunno, I think the fact one has the opportunity to re-take their ship or levi it is enough to take the risk Shadow.

They stay hidden because if stolen they can't do anything about it.. with this they have options and pirates will not be so quick to jump on them as they will finally need to risk something. This in reality gives added defense to the larger ships, it is called fear of retaliation or loss of profit/resources. Not many pirates will be able to come up with ways to make this work therefore again reducing the frequent raids.
