Limited Professions

And it would be interesting and game wouldn't be based on three kinds of ppl privateers, merchants and pirates :)

This post from another thread got me thinking. I meant for it to go into the thread "what would you like to see in the game?" but i could not locate it, thus the new suggestion.

I think we need limits on the number of professions one can indulge in. For the purpose of this lets say the limit is 2. This would mean any player can only partake in 2 professions of choice as they appear. By only being allowed 2 jobs, that player would only be allowed to build the building in the hideout which corresponds to that profession. Professions can be changed at anytime by giving up the chosen profession to release and choosing a new one. In order to switch, your current building associated with the profession you gave up will be demolished back to 0 and you would need to rebuild it should you wish to return.

(I understand the idea of demolishing your building may be less than ideal at first but this would be to prevent switching a career for a while and only being locked out, then switch back and be ready to go, essentially defeating the purpose of limited careers in general.)

Profession examples and their buildings
Banker - Bank
Goldsmith - Goldsmith
Shipwright - Shipwright
Voodoo Doctor - Witch Hut
ect. as they appear. (Academy would be generic between all but certain research can be limited)

This would stop the most powerful players from building everything up and monopolizing / controlling all the markets and making it near pointless for the other players to even want to begin building. Would make gold bars (soon used for just about everything) more valuable and rare. Promote relationship building and deals between players. Limit the number of banks preventing players from using there own level 1 or 2 simply to store their own gold. The list of pro's could go on in my mind :).

+1 Good Idea, the fact that I can buy enough gold bars from the market to level up my bank sort of shows how they became just another item. But if there are limited number of professions, there could be less people producing and more people wanting them.

To add - rather than totally demolishing the building and losing your investment perhaps selling it for a percentage of the gold used to upgrade. (resource would be lost, gold bar value could be discussed)

+1 rly lovely idea.

I have one consern though. We keep talking and asking about implements. We have managed to make the game more intresting, but at the same time we are making it more difficult. It's already a difficult enough game, since a player must play at least 1 year to unlock 1/3 of this game potentials. We should also work on that someday. A new player has to learn so many stuff and most are bored and leave.

let's say 50% out of total investment and 70% total value out of gold bars I guess these numbers are affordable and acceptable

yes it is fair concerne but if new players really wanna learn it it can be accomplished in a lot of less time I am here for a month or 2 max 3 months I still learn game but I learned basics and I am capable to expand on my own without loans or gifts I am not able to have 300 ships now but I am on that way and I grow each day steadily.

You think you have learned the basics - But, the advanced stuff is the basics - So technically, you have learned the new player knowledge ;)

i'm afraid that that's how it goes. You can expand yourself for sure, but the real question is how far? you need 1-2 B for hideout. :D (appologize if the price is wrong)
