Carl immediately barks out orders

Don't know if it's a pirate, but I don't like the look of that ship-ready the cannons, and signal that ship to identify itself and it's origin or be bombarded by all our ships.

The mysterious black ship slowed, reefing it's sails. A british flag was being run up the mast, as well as a white flag, in this case likely trying to signify the vessel had no ill intentions and wished to approach the fleet.

Jack stares at the vessel through a spyglass frowning. He orders

Signal that vessel to heave to and have their commander come in over in a small boat.

Jack pulls his clay pipe from his coat pocket. He frowns again at the ship.

Stand by to beat to quarters just in case anything happens.

The necessary contingent to work the battery of guns among the 330 men aboard the ship is sent below. Signal flags are run up on the mizzen, ordering the ship to heave to and their captain come over in a rowboat.

The black ship dropped anchor, and within a few moments, a longboat was being lowered over the side, 3 figures in it, rowing over to Jack's fleet.

The captain, or the man who looked like the captain, wore rather plain seaman's clothing, coupled with a large, wide brimmed, circular black hat. Lank, curly brown hair hung down to his shoulders, and he had a short, scraggly beard.

As the boat approaches Jack hails

Who are you and from where do you sail?

The captain looked up, shouting back.

Captain Hector Barbossa, of the Black Pearl. We sail from the port of New Land, good sir!

Jack scratches his chin. The name seems quite familiar but he's not quite sure where he heard it. He hails

What do you gentleman want?
