Gaster pulled a very quick about face, walking in the opposite direction. But this quick exit did not come without more of Gaster's peculiar brand of attitude. This time, however, he kept it considerably quieter than he had with Mel, not looking for another earful.

Veera just laughs as he walks off before looking out to sea

Alright time to go see Carl.

She quickly vanishes reappearing near Carl, who has still been sailing forward. Veera looks around and nods to him

We should be getting close to the enemy fleets by now. You've been sailing full speed right? Regardless, I just had to see this for myself.

Many, many, many miles in the distance, a thick black line blotted out the horizon. Hundreds, if not thousands of massive vessels, lumbering towards St. Martins.

Carl looks out and quickly tries to count the ships, before turning to Veera

Go back and tell them we got what looks like a thousand plus ships heading their way, me and my men will go off to meet them in battle. With any luck, they won't get past us!

Nearby, the men look very afraid of doing so, but Carl stands up on a box as he speaks

Alright men, their may be a thousand plus ships out there, but I'm willing to bet that our ship and crew is worth a hundred of their!

A nearby man shouts afraid

Those are still HORRIBLE odds!

Carl continues either ignoring the man or not listening

And sure, their ships are bigger, and probably have far larger crews, with ungodly magic and technology that we have absolutely none of!

Another man shouts again afraid

This is all sounding like a very stupid and awful idea!

Carl regardless continues his speech

But we have spirit, and heart, something I bet those buggers ain't got none of, so let's go and show those buggers what for!

Carl raises his fist, gives a large battle cry and leaps into the water, swimming towards the enemy fleet. Veera meanwhile is bent over laughing, tears in her eyes. The men look to eachother and silently turn the ship around, as Carl swims onward to battle.

The midnight black armada lumbered forward, not even bothering to engage the miniature vessel, which looked like a dinghy compared to their indomitable size.

Veera finally stands up, smiling as she looks to the ships nodding to the crew

Ah man, what a guy that Carl. Anyway, quick question for you lads, how many does it take to deliver a message?

A nearby man looks confused before speaking

Just one?

Veera nods happily

Correct!

She quickly spins around, unleashing a nasty blast of magic destroying a nearby enemy ship, before vanishing back to port, leaving behind the ship and it's crew to take the blame for the attack.

Mounted on the bow of each vessel was a large, steel-plated ram. Unlike your usual rams, however, these were outfitted with all sorts of nasty hooks and barbs. One of the vessels, likely a modified large frigate, turned towards them, gaining a burst of speed as it locked onto the small cutter, on a ramming course.

Meanwhile at the St. Martin defensive fort.....

The fort commander, Colonel David Ramsbotum III, and his executive officer, Major Benjamin Vandersnatch stood in the war room around the map table and discussed the details of the defense of St. Martins.

Major, with the support fleet in position and extra troops, St. Martins is a paradigm of defense. No enemy will breach our defenses.

"Yes, absolutely sir." agreed the Major.

Colonel Rambotum continued...

However! We must not let our guard down. This fort is vital and the last line of defense for St. Martins. We need to ensure that our batteries are properly stocked with ammunition, provisions are sufficient, and our men are both well rested and alert. I want you to issue out a roll of tobacco and a shot of rum for each man to keep the morale high. You're Dismissed.

"Yes, sir. Right away." the Major replied as he snapped to attention, rendered a salute, and began to walk towards the door.

The Colonel returned the salute. After the Major had made a few steps toward the door the Colonel called out to the Major.

Oh, Major. Send in Captain Enalwick. I want that report on the explosion down at the General Store.

The Major acknowledged the Colonel and then departed the war room. The colonel returned to the map table. After a few minutes, a load knock interrupted the silence.

"Come in!" stated the Colonel.

A man entered wearing a Captain's uniform and approached the Colonel saying,
"Captain...."

Before the man could finish, the Colonel while still looking down at the table interrupted, "At ease, Captain, come over here I'd like to show you something."

The man moved next to the Colonel but stood slightly behind him away from the table. The Colonel excitedly explained the defenses laid out to the man, only briefly glancing up as he explained the brilliance of their defense, unaware of who was actually standing next to him. The colonel standing straight up turns to the man and says, "Now Captain Enalwick, I want to hear about this explo.....

As the Colonel turned to fully see the man up close, the man moved forward plunging the sharp blade of a knife into the chest of the colonel. The colonel looked in horror as the knife was turned inside him and pulled out. Gasping for breath, the colonel collapses to the floor as the blood poured out of his wound. The man stands over top the colonel, places a letter on the colonel's chest, and cuts the colonel's throat from ear to ear. The man leaves the war room and talks to his.

"Put the other bodies in their with the colonel. Once that is done, get to your positions on the gun batteries. We don't have a lot of time before someone realizes the fort has been captured."

The man follow the orders dumping the bodies of Major Vandersnatch and the other officers into the War Room.

The men man their positions at the batteries. Battery A takes aim towards the fleet. Batteries B and C take aim toward the St. Martin's Harbor.

The garrison flag is lowered and a red blood soaked pirate flag is risen. The batteries open fire. Artillery shells begin to rain down on the fleet and the harbor. Two full volleys from each battery are sent forth. While only 1 SOTL was critically hit, the docks and outlying harbor area were devastated with hundreds dead and hundreds more injured. Fire consumed the area.

As garrison troops storm the Fort, the powder store erupts in a massive explosion. The fort is severally damaged.

The mysterious man looks on from a distance and then disappears into the woods.

A rock hits the mysterious man, as the old sea witch Mel stands near the woods frowning before speaking

You know, going into the woods, not the wisest choice for wanting to disappear. Ain't you ever hear any fairy tales or the like-woods and witches go together like dungeons and dragons. Or dwarves and beards. Regardless At the moment, these are my woods you know. As well, at the moment this is my port. Don't much care about the people honestly, or even the port itself, but an agreement is an agreement.

The woods creak a little as numerous large and nasty animals come out, encircling the 2. Mel just glares at the man before speaking again

Now how about you spill your guts before I have a bear spill them for you?

Meanwhile, Brian looks to the ruined fort, and quickly greets a nearby messenger who quickly hands him a letter it reads written in what appears to be blood

The sheer disrespect of someone coming to try to steal something from me, is quite insulting. Me and my fleet will come to annihilate all who dare do such a thing. -King N

The mysterious man waves his hand downward. All the animals and creatures surrounding the two become docile and slunk to the ground in a unconscious state.

That's a brazen assumption you make.

The man freezes Mel in place and walks toward her, shedding his appearance from a man to a spitting likeness of Mel.

What power do you see?

The "man" walks around Mel and sheds his appearance again into Veera.

Whose power do you see?

The man walks around Mel again and returns back to first appearance, stopping in front of her. Putting his hand to her cheek, causing Mel's age to melt away back into her youthful form.

Wise words that I speak to you, be mindful of the deals that you make with me, for one day I will be there to collect.

The man removes his hand from Mel's cheek, and her old appearance returns. The man releases Mel and walks into the forest and disappears. The animals regain consciousness and walk back into the woods.
