This is why some people don't take climate change seriously. Of course the world will still exist! Of course humans will still exist. There is no-one serious claiming that the world will be "destroyed".

There is no point making such claims. It should be more than sufficient to point out the problems that really most likely ARE going to happen. Some probably no matter what, and some which may still be avoided if we are able to act. Overestimating a problem doesn't help. Nor is it necessary, considering how tremendous the problems that really ARE predicted to happen, will be.

Climate scientists say otherwise:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat ... 356865001/

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/envi ... ates-2050/

https://www.oecd.org/env/indicators-mod ... igures.htm

The biggest thing that's standing in the way of fixing climate change and climate change-related problems is that people DON'T take it seriously. They think of it as just a thing that won't impact them in their life time, and that any major changes will be hundreds of years after they die. They are wrong, of course.

It could already be to late. But if we want to have a chance to save ourselves, then we need action and we need it now.

The World will not be destroyed. Humanitys ability to live in it will be seriously impaired. The consequences of which, given our seemingly innate ability to take a crisis and turn it into a war, are far more likely to reduce us to a minor lifeform upon it.

Will the rich wealthy and powerful survive it? As they usually do. The rest of us will be the ones who pay the price, the ones excluded from the gated and guarded compounds set on the high fertile ground. If you think immigration is bad now, wait until millions are disposessed by hunger, fresh water scarcity and poverty.

No, climate change will not end us, dealing with it in our usual inequitable way probably will.

If you read past the headlines and click bait, you'll see that everyone thinks the earth will still be here. As will humans. But it will have massive impact on the lives of most, if not all who are living here.

But stop saying such nonsense as "humans will not be around in a few hundred years". Climate change is so important that it deserves to be taken seriously. State what the predicted probable and possible scenarios will be, rather than scream "we're all gonna die"!

I don't understand why, when something is as serious as this, people feel the need to pretend it's even worse? I mean, I am scared enough by reality, no need to exaggerate.

That's kinda what I meant.

I'm showing you the science. You can interpret it however you want. Humanity will probably be around a few hundred years from now, but as Danik said, the ability for us to live will be impaired, and it will be much much harder to do so.

Then don't say things like "the world won't exist in a few hundred years". That's just a silly statement. And those who don't realize how bad climate change is, will easily attack such obviously wrong statements.

Stick to facts. To actual predictions. "The world will be gone" does not mean the same as "living conditions for most people will be worse than today, possibly far worse". Say what you mean instead of screaming "were all gonna die".

I'm sorry, I guess me saying that probably sounded a little misleading. What I meant, is that the world as we know it will probably not exist in a few hundred years. I mean the 2050 study predicted that trees would be a rare sighting. In 2050. I'll be in my forties. More plastic bottles in the ocean than fish. What the hell is stopping us from fixing these problems??

What was the study's reason for said trees being a rare sighting by 2050? Please say CO2 emissions. I would rather enjoy this.

A nice discussion about climate change.

And then Dez enters to tell me that climate change is a hoax.

Several reasons. Mass deforestation. Lack of clean rain water. What would CO2 emissions have to do with the amount of trees? The amount of trees affects how much CO2 is in the atmosphere at a given time, but not vice versa.

But who cares? Obviously the government is exaggerating how serious climate change is to make those USDs. Obviously climate scientists have been paid off by Obama to tell people that Climate change exists. Obviously it doesn't or Dez would say that it did.

Of course climate changes exists. The climate changes 4 times a year, every year.

Mass deforestation is environmental change. CO2 is important for plant growth which in turn creates oxygen.

If climate change is such a problem, why is it that trillions of USDs need to fix it. Aren't there all these other better places in the world that can make fixes, or is the US supposed to support the world?
