Forum Toxicity - An Open Discussion

Postby DezNutz » Mon May 18, 2020 2:52 pm

Before we begin, keep in mind that this topic is in the Tavern.

Flaming, insults, inappropriate discussion, innuendos, cursing, off topic discussion, and/or any other forum rules violation will be removed and result in a warning. Multiple violations will be a ban.

--------------------------------------------------------

To begin, I would like to apologize to the community as a whole. My forum etiquette has been borderline at best, and in doing so have failed in part with my duties as a admin/mod. While my posting habits have been roughly the same my entire time in the community, it has played a part in the lack of forum activity and this cannot continue.

Forum toxicity is problem. The only place on the forums for trash talking, flaming, minor insults, etc. is Union of Honor. And even there, the vitriol that can get posted needs to be dialed back. Now this isn't just a one or two person problem. There are multiple players who participate and multiple players who choose to instigate. Yes, if you instigating a response you are perpetuating the problem.

We as a community must be active and we as a community must follow the rules of the forum.

I ask the community to become more active. Report activities that violate the rules, regardless of who the violator is. Actions by admins/mods that violate the rules must also be reported. I, as a perpetrator of forum toxicity, must do better, and neither myself nor the other admins/moderators can take actions to correct the problem if the community as a whole does not stand up, be active in the forums, and report the violations.

I leave this open for others to reply.
I'm only here for Game Development and Forum Moderation.

If you see a forum rule violation, report the post.

i have fun with what folks call toxicity i guess
if i see someone begging for my attention to often i ignore them until im in the mood to enjoy what they seek
i honestly think folks are to sensitive
mel made a crack involving my granny and i was like you go mel
i know only a few people here and only a few know me
so anything said i can laugh at
as should others
its not a biggie in my book just more fun than robotic patterns within the game
damages or butthurt received in the posting of these words is solely yours and yours alone
if counseling is needed therapist ahben buthert or cryin ferdays is available at the tp kleenex & creme clinic
:PP
I am a silly head and a meanie.

I'm not against pushing buttons, having a fun, or being critical of issues. Yes, there are folks that are too sensitive, but there are times when it can be overboard and times where it is spilling into topics that is shouldn't have been in.

As well, I want to see more people posting in the forums.

Hey, let it be : job done! The draft is wrecked! Or do you hope to pin the blame for that on the victims too? They wanted it, you know!

Yes, Danik, you got me. The draft ran perfectly and didn't have any problems until myself or dman posted on it. It was a pillar of greatness and should be exalted at how well the PR Team did. They led the charge and were the forefront of everything great about the draft. All future drafts should be led in the same manner. There efforts should be rewarded with praise and glorious achievements. Any failures of the draft are a direct result of the naysayers. Their perfection must be emulated everywhere for all of PG to see.

All Hail Danik the Great.

And for the record. Your post is off topic.

For the record, everything I post is 'off-topic' : according to some.

But thats cool : you get to win that argument too!

I think everyone have their hearts in the right place. We just get too competitive and start to try to put others down to build ourselves up. Some have even built in game characters around that attitude. I think it went out of hand this time but I am sure no one really intended it to go that way.
Even I am guilty of breaking decorum at least once.
I do agree that we should exercise more self control and know that when people ask us to stop, it pays off to be more respectful.

Yes. And the admins/mods need to step up on enforcing the rules. Rule enforcement could have curtailed some of this. But enforcement can't come without support and activity from the community. The point that I was trying to make in this topic.

I do not recall this being about the draft. From my perspective, pretty much every forum discussion devolves into toxic banter of one degree or another.
