So a few questions/points:

1) The trait only applies when the ship defeats another ship in battle. If the ship with the trait loses, it gains nothing. Is this correct?

2) The repair occurs after winning a ship to ship battle but before the next ship to ship battles starts during a Plunder/Skirmish Action. Is this correct?

For Example: Ship1A vs Ship1B
Ship1A has trait and wins. Ship1A repairs 10% based on Ship1B total HP
Ship1A then fights Ship2B

Yes this is correct

How is it the other way around.

ShipA wins. ShipA repairs 10% based on ShipB (the enemy's) total HP.

seems to me there is no drawback for stopping in the middle of a battle to salvage for repair materials
seems you would lose a lot on defense if your crew is busy swimming in the ocean trying to crane parts aboard a ship
i am not a fan of one sided freebies -1
