I think my problem is trying to ensure I had raw materials to work with to earn a wage.
My intent was never to be a plant owner for the sake of looking for a new career path but rather, one of necessity if resources run low.

With the huge expense of trying to develop even one plantation, I find myself now in over my head trying to develop eight of them.
Perhaps I should concentrate on one until I get the right building ratios figured out and the effects of pop and acreage changes.
I can't quit now though for fear of losing 7 other plants and literally hundreds of millions of GC invested. I need some way to get in and out of the plantation market and concentrate on any one particular resource without losing my investment in other resources.

I could be wrong on this, but I was under the impression if you have done development, you don't lose it even if you close the plantation. You may lose stars, but the improvements you made should still exist.

Otherwise all it would take is someone to high ball all the bids and you could wipe a players investment just by bidding high and taking the acres when they renew.

This too was my impression however, careful perusal of the available documentation states that if you lose acreage for a short unspecified period of time, no degradation will happen but a longer unspecified period of time occurs without attendance, plantation bldgs will degrade at an unspecified rate.

The lack of a corrective response to my question from admin in this thread speaks quietly of the validity of my claim but in no way negates the validity of my question.

@Dez
Stars have noting to do with buildings on their own.
Stars are a function of a buildings ability to handle the load that is being placed upon it by availble workers. If no workers are present, no load exists. If workers are still present to run the building but not the facility/plantation this would yeild 5 stars, however if there are no workers to run the buildings either then the stars dissapear.

@CJ re Stans comment
I was under the impression buildings do not naturaly degrade.

I also would like to know if Stan is correct about degradation after loss of acres.

I am taking break from facilities/plantations and am now concerned i am losing my investments.
