When a war breaks on a port, the only role that fleets play right now, is how much gold they can provide to fund the port war. With this, we give fleets an extra meaning which is reasonable.
Someone with fleets, powerful fleets must feel powerless and immobilized during an influence war. With this addition, such a player will have something to do. It will not be as powerful as his powerful fleets but at least, he will be able to do something.
Since this comes from influence stolen from other players, the losers of a fleet battle will either have to pay a premium in gc for the influence their fleets lose. So, in essence, gc and cards will still be king, something that cannot change from one day to another.
Here are some metrics:
The formula: Influence Loot = (Losing Fleet Total Guns * 10 ) - Losing Fleet Installed Total Guns
2xSoL fleet, 3 cutters = 144 guns, all equipped => 144 * 10 - 144 = 1440 -144 = 1,296 Influence Looted
4xLMM,1 cutter = 88 guns, none equipped => 88 * 10 - 0 = 880 Influence Looted
1 Flag Galleon,3 Trade Galleons, 1 cutter, all equipped = 84 guns, all equipped => 84 * 10 - 84 = 840 - 84 = 756 Influence Looted
These are doubled in case of war.
We can say that the calculated average losses are 1250 for war fleets and 750 for trading fleets. In case of war are around 2500 for war fleets and 1500 for trading fleets.
That's a cost that spans from 7500 gc to 25000 gc for the loser, to recover his influence.
As an comparison, someone with 10M influence at a port, loses 100 000 influence, or 1M per day. This is the equivalent of losing 40 battles in the port vicinity. 40 Battles lost by your war fleets or like 67 lost by your trading fleets. During peace time, it is 80 battles and 135 respectively.
However, it is a balanced solution because of the looting that takes place. This 2500 influence removed, are added to the winner. So, during a port battle, this actually means that this is a 50k, instead of a 25k difference, per battle (at best case scenario).
Something that will add extra importance in battles fought in the vicinity of the ports that the two nations contest.
To reassure cheating will not be possible, influence will not be awarded. Only looted.
Only scripted wars -through diplomacy- will grant the double bonus. So if you want your friends to help, they will either need to join your nation or their nation will have to declare war as well.
There are 2 easy ways to avoid influence loss:
1)Keep your fleets outside that port
2)Keep no fleets
Obviously, the two solutions above will only be temporal, till blockades come.
Remember everyone, this is a discussion. I see a lot of +1 and -1, reserve this for actual suggestions. Feel free to express this ofc but giving some insight on this +1,-1 as well as your thoughts, is what is mostly needed here.
