You should start preparing your ports where you will host your plantations.

Therefore, since we are delayed, it is only fair that you should be alerted before hand on what you will require:

1)Immigrants
You will not be able to bring such yet. This option will open with the plantations feature.

2)Food
Food will be the most important resource. You will need to ensure that your workers will never run out of food. Average Food consumption is 0.0025 crates per worker and you will be able to adjust this through offered meals.

3)Gold Bars
You will require Gold Bars to improve any building. Not any other kind of material: only gold bars

4)Tools
You will be able to increase your workers efficiency by improving Utility Buildings. These however, have an upkeep of Tools which is relative to the amount of workers you have and the building quality.

5)Iron
Similarly with Utility Buildings, Housing has an iron upkeep.

6)Wood
Kitchens need wood to burn, therefore they have a wood upkeep.

7)Cloth
Baths need cloth.

8)Recreational
Recreational buildings require rum to operate.

9)Guard Houses
Guard Houses without tobacco will never operate. Who wants to sit at a spot all day long, persecuting others, without a smoke? Well, your guards require a smoke.

Remember, all buildings are optional. Therefore, if you want to prepare, you need to at least get some gold bars and food at the port where you are going to build your plantation.

Upkeep is calculated per hour but is constantly paid throughout the day (in multiple payments per hour) as long as the upkeep to be paid is at least 1 crate. If it is less than 1 crate, then it moves for the next hour till at least 1 crate can be charged.

If I am correct, Rightful King and port Governors do not need operating permission to build a plantation in a port they control,

Captain Jack wrote:[*]Rightful Kings and same port Governors will need no operating permission license. If any of them, for any reason, lose their place, they will automatically receive an Operating Permission with 3 days remaining. This will happen to allow them to either attempt to return to their place or negotiate a new contract without losing any production.[/*]
[*]For Pirate ports, no permission will be required and existing licenses days countdown will freeze.[/*]

Anyone can apply for a permission. The King and the port Governor do not require one. Without an operating permission, you cannot rent acres, so you cannot really do much more than just bring workers in.

How are things coming along?

I sure am excited to not be able to use plantation when it comes out, like 99% of most people.

We are working on the numerous formulas the feature will use.

While we always try to simulate reality, this may not be evident here.
Plantations will have seasons, but 1 whole year will be 1 day.
The reason we are doing this is because time in Avonmora is relative. When a ship can do like 30 minutes from one port to another, then we need a relevant simulation based on the game numbers.

This means that worker numbers will also be a little off as you are going to need a lot of them, even for small plantations. Back in the day, a ship would come like once every 3 or 4 months and would bring only a handful of workers. Most of them sick. Here, a fleet can bring easily around 14k-15k workers a day.

Like Jessica said earlier, perhaps this procedure is the one of the most draining ones as it is very difficult to define a good balancing start, which we will need later.

since running plantation that has various buildings require many different resources and workers, would it be too much to ask for developers to include their own suggestion of a trade route being able to have up to 24 different port destinations, instead of current 4, to patch where plantations are implemented?

this would make managing a plantation a lot easier. and especially multiple plantations. i hope this would also encourage as many players as possible to invest in improving their plantation(s), as not everyone has vast amount of fleets.

I remember that. I thought that was approved. I think Jessica posted about it once and then never saw it again.....
