Respect is earned and is often a one way street. The new addition to a team doesnt hold the respect of the rest until it is in fact earned. And he cant hope to earn it without first showing it to the veterans of the team. The definition of the word is clear, unfortunately lost in todays day and age. Too many think they are entitled to respect when they've done nothing to earn it. So... they default to not showing any to those deserving and in turn only make it harder on themselves to receive any.

#1 Veterans don't deserve respect simply because they are veterans.
#2 Personal respect has nothing to do with abilities. If you are respecting individual abilities, you are not respecting the person.

Like PRO just said, he went about this about as respectfully as he could. He wanted a port to raise a flag on the board. He made his intent clear from the onset and gave options.

What was the response? Name calling and denigration.

In a trade profession or a sports team "new members" are brought on board for skills and abilities that qualified them for the role they were hired for... thus respect for the accomplishments they currently hold even being "new" demands respect.

agreed.. it would be difficult to decide what to do when there is little to attack other than those people you know are friends.. that is the path i chose when i had nothing else worth attacking on the people i was at war with. you would think that if they are in a guild, than the fellow guild members would do something.. maybe try to talk the guy out of his foolish moves or help him, i cant imagine they just idley by knowing it means war if they dont.. i think this is a guild move.....

Port battles are battles like any other. PRO at least this time made his intent clear from the start. The attack itself was in no way toxic game play. Infact it was completely the opposite.
