My experience leads me to the inevitable conclusion that the developers prefer nations to be precariously balanced on the edge of disaster at all times : their security is not an issue and can only be achieved by the relentless and daily expenditure of vast amounts of resources : and if a band of villains choose so, even that expenditure might not be enough, for you have just spent it to create an opportunity for them to profit from destroying it. The nation must be lucky every time, the villains need only be lucky the once.

Mexico brought no changes to that truth : USA brought no changes to that truth : Midway Islands brought no changes to that truth : Spain brought no changes to that truth : nor have many other smaller examples, not will the next, or the next after that : port control is structured to soak up vast swathes of cash and resources : any return on your investment is temporary : more expenditure is always round the corner. Or, like Grenada and Montenegro : watch all you have created with your precious assets just melt away.

Thus, no surprises when many veterans tire of the silliness and so choose to step away from it.

Correct me if i am wrong, however as proposed, it would not Block but rather delay. A Port could change hands by outside Influence per the usual first then that country without Port holding status could be overrun by new citizens ranking up without restriction as is the case normally. It simply prevents capturing a Port & a Treasury in One fell swoop but it could still be done.

The "villains" that Danik speaks of would then have to take over 5 or 6 ports (Spain/St Kitts) to make a coup like this work then?? Right?

Yes a 1 port nation I can see that, but a multi-port nation this would not work.
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

I class myself as one of Daniks "villains" but even I see the need for nation security to be improved.

I joined the Spain coup to see it done and learn from its outcome, from both sides. Doesn't mean this should be possible.

I advocate for more reality, especially when so much time and resources have been invested. it is in no way realistic for a band of thieves to join a nation and takes its ports or treasury within a week. Coup's should be possible but not without massive planning and months of putting people in the right places through trickery and deceit.. like a true politician ;).

I would vote for more power on the nation's behalf to restrict entrance to those they deem a threat.

I just wish more people would spend less time debating game play on the forums and actually play. The seas of Avonmora are deader than King Tut.

Sometimes, these debates can keep until the game is 100% perfect, bugless, without space for more improvements

That depends how you define 'play', dont it? Of late, I have never made so much money, and I'm doing very little 'overt' play : but play it still is, working on the edges and the cracks of the game mechanics and offering the minimum possibility for some villainous type to come and take it all away : so yep, its pretty crappy for their game play, but tough, I'm not here to service their play needs, just my own.

I know a few veteran players who are done with dumping hundreds of millions of GC into a losing investment called port control.
Fun for a while until you see 6 months of saving wiped out in a couple days with no chance for getting it back.
