It's a philosophical difference profoundly more complex than the mere likimg for Rum.
A pirate and a merchant walk into a bottle shop : There is but one bottle of rum left and no more due to arrive for many days.
The merchant thinks : I should buy it, then I can sell it on and make a decent profit!
The pirate thinks : I should steal it and get drunk!
Both know they are right and will never understand the other.
