As irritating of a nuisance semicolons are, they are grudgingly accepted.

How come it's not the dot which is called a semi-colon? That is, after all, half a colon.

Its called a semi-colon cos you can unhook the colon then swap them around, attach them to a different semi and create a new one!

I prefer hemi-colons : you get to the end of the sentence faster and they make a lovely rumbling noise.....
