Yes, we probably should have yelled more at each other in the forums. Ah well, maybe next time.

Kudos to Avery for trying to get some of the visible action into print, though. I believe that made the war more interesting to some bystanders. Perhaps for our next war, the T'zak Ryn will have to embed a journalist among our ranks. Giving the very unbiased view as seen from our guild, of course.

+1
I too thought that an impartial journalist embedded in each guild would provide a entertaining running commentary of the happenings during a war for the enjoyment and pleasure of the general public.

Thinking when Sean Spicer becomes unemployed, he would be a great choice for the Ayes guild ;)

Valar,

If you want some action, you could cast HNs on yourself or go poke one of the big guilds in the game. Those tend to get some events going for you in the game :P

Or, you could try to start and build a nation or guild. That seems to be big right now.

...This is not me saying a Merchants life is better or worse then a pirates life. Merely me stating the reasons why old Seadogs have turned to the Merchant side...

John Avery, I think you shared some good understanding there. Many old-timers that stick around are traders because it's an easy retirement compared to the action required to survive as a pirate. I don't see a problem with taking the easier path when the player wants it... but I do have a problem with how mindless trading has become with Fertile Lands + Party cards.

I think what Avonmora needs is some excitement in the trading economy! I say change the trade goods limit from 2147M to 8M and let the traders work out who will survive and who will not! Blur the line between trader and pirate by incentivizing traders to be a little cut-throat in pursuit of profits. Mercenaries will be hired and pirates will find new purpose.
What do you think?

My issue is this : traders are not combative : period. It runs counter to the need to keep your fleets rolling 24/7 each bringing in their small profit to add to the overall take. Privateers are combative, but the price they pay is to self-limit their trade and also, to a large extent, their combativeness : pirates are very combative, their price is that regular trade of any kind is difficult.
Thus I find it a bit off to see this emphasis on making traders more aggressive : they would stop being traders and end up as privateers : the logic of purses and plunders would force that. Too many hittable trade fleets endanger your attack fleets : that's undeniable and enough high-value hit fleets have been stolen because of it.
Whats broken here is not that merchants dont fight enough, its that Pirates and Privateers dont fight enough to please the public demand for blood-sports so, somehow, we are looking for ways to force merchants to fulfil that need. Thats about as useful as sending out the hot-dog vendors to pitch during a dull ball-game.

I fundamentally disagree with these statements. I don't understand why you say merchants should be free from competition and certain players need to fight more.
Here I'm proposing to remove the mindlessness and give the majority of the players (aka the traders) some resistance to fight against. It gives the experience more value to have some interesting obstacles to overcome. I'm NOT ok with non-combative traders who figured out how to cast Party Cards on their warehouses daily and repeat ad nauseam.
