The best games dont have elements that work in isolation : everything interacts, it forms an eco-system : that can make it very hard to introduce a new element and to judge exactly how it will interact and eventually find a place in the eco-system : it dont always end up where we had hoped : it may combine with what had been a benign element and create a monster : it may fail totally because it just doesnt fit in anywhere and thus become the Avonmora Appendix : its there, no-one quite knows why but it may have served a purpose at some distant time. Maybe it helped us digest seaweed, but the seaweed crop failed and went extinct centuries ago, that sort of thing.
I do want change, progression, improvements : but not for their own sake and not just to appease a narrow element of the player-base and that narrow element includes me at times. So, perhaps the players are not the best folks to be asking and that's probably why few games bother doing so.
So, until we can see what it will actually BE : opinion is hard to form as to its desirability : I do know there can be a tendency to assume that if no-one objects to something, they must agree with it : that opposition to an idea indicates a personal vendetta being played out, or some pathological aversion to 'change' or what-not : life is not that simple. It may well be that your argument has failed because you have not presented it well enough to convince me.
