The common core was used a poor bail out method in hopes that the USA could compete with other nations again that are continually rising up and improving their country's education levels. Rather than hiring scientist to see what these nations are doing and how the USA will be able to mock this, the USA hired lobbyist, businesses and ultimately the government itself to create a system that was for profit. But having this system that every student in the country is tested to the same standard makes sense on paper, but that is not how it is done. We need to treat our students as individuals and see what each capability is. Taking a test will do great for some, as most civil service jobs require it. But what happens when the kid who aced the test is faced with a physical fitness test for the job and then becomes bottom of the class? As I say, being smartest person is not always going to get you the job.

The problem with education is that it is in the hand of the wrong people. you need excellent teachers to be involved in making the curriculum and have administrators not make teachers lives hell with stupid and arrogant decisions.

one thing I would like to see changed is for the school systems to encourage the students to pick a topic they are interested in, and let THEM choose the majority of subjects. they force students to take several mandatory courses for the majority of their time. I recall in highschool, my freshmen year I decided to knock out the mandatory PE class, and the art class. since I had NO interest in either of those being a future career. and in my freshmen year I only had ONE class I got to choose that wasn't mandatory. they also seriously need to set schools up with a class that teaches life skills such as how to deal with taxes, manage a checkbook, write a job resume, but sadly these are things you either have to learn on your own, or hope someone in your family can teach you.

Exactly, How can someone who has spent zero time in the class room be the decision maker for the whole country. I feel for the administration in a way because they are suppose to try and make sure their school exceeds, if not they lose funding. So it causes a negative management. Schools are run more like a business with how many students that can get to come in a day and also how many seniors they can graduate, for more funding the following year.

currently the schools require new textbooks every year and they had to update there whole computer systems from the on's that they can afford to mac's and chrome books and the schools are required to pay for them now i have my own chrome book and i take it to school with me and all the teachers approve of it but a official that checks to make sure everyone is doing the right thing came in and said i wasn't allowed to use my computer that is the exact same as what everyone else is using just its my own computer come to find out the guy worked at google and came to make sure all the schools had bought the appropriate amount of chrome books for every student i just told the guy to go away and crawl back into the hole he came out of and he said he wasn't i stayed on my chrome book then the guy came up and shut it then a few days later my school started to think that common core wasn't such a good idea and our teachers are asking us why did this guy put all these comma's in a sentence and we would answer because its the correct grammar (and that was the wrong answer) at least im glad my school makes enough per year to stay afloat unlike many of the schools around us my town does a festival every year and its coming up again here soon 3-4 million in profit from it per year for the school alone and that's what keeps my school one of the top 5 in the nation although were planning on going out of the governments way this year there's a petition going around my school district so far it has 100k signatures its expected to get 400k more by the end of next month

He probably wanted you to change 'puters because the period button was missing on yours. That has to be the 2nd longest sentence I have ever seen ;)

Feel for the teachers! Admins get 90K and up a year. Teachers get what $30K to 45K? From that they are supposed to live, pay taxes, benefits and supply their classroom because funds don't really reach them! Funds get spent towards hiring consultants who know nothing to tell teachers how to do the things they are already doing or ask them to do more stupid stuff!

Even though I would like to see a "how to do grown up things" class. I think the internet can do that for you.

Schoools introduce you things to make you well rounded. If your school never taught you history because "you didn't like it." People would be walking about not knowing that WWI occured, or about HItler. Anything past. How Egypt was the first civilization, ours roots. Or science, math, etc. I don't agree with specialization in schools, people are introduced to these topics to see which they like and don't.
Just repeat after me: "Czar Ivan did not help me win the elections."
