Colonies.

Each Port has 20 Colonies, Each colony contains the same amount of people (total population of port / 20). Port owners have the option to SELL the colonies of their port to other nations. The colony owner's country gets some money from the colony they own.

Colony Selling
- A contract is written by the current Port Owners, which apply the terms of payment to the colony buyer. The council of the country who owns the port are the only who can vote on this contract.
- The colony buyer agrees, and they earn income from their colony.

Colony Over-Taking
- Colonies are reset to ALL be owned by the port owners when the port changes ownership.

Example: New Land
1. Spain agrees to sell 5 Colonies to Egypt
2. Contract is created by Spain's King, and voted in Parliament by Council Members.
3. Egyptian King agrees to the contract, and owns 1/4 of New Land.
4. Egypt now earns 1/4th of the income of New Land.

Agreed. What is your thought behind "sharing a port" basically? Why would anyone want to sell a portion of their nations income.

Continuing your example,
New land is taken over by Wales,
does this mean the 5 colonies Egypt bought are gone. if that's the case, buying colonies would not be worth it, since it could be taken over. in fact it would probably be easier and more lucrative if you just take the entire port, rather then buy a portion of it. also, what would happen if Spain sells, 5 colonies to Egypt, 5 to Bermuda, 5 to Wales and 5 to Tokelau. that would mean Spain wouldn't earn any of the profit from newland. could it even be considered a Spain port at that point?
I will say this though, I think this would be beneficial to small nations unable to take and hold a port. and that thought does appeal to me. but as it is now gonna have to go with -1.

Well my point was a port being able to share its income with smaller nations. A little bit more diverse.

If that was your point, there are ways to do so "unofficially". I think this suggestion would be very hard to fit in with the current game mechanic. I think your idea about a possibility to share may be decent, but this implementation seems very at odds with the way port control works.

I made a suggestion some time ago, about nations being able to use their influence to support other nations for port control (I think it was simply called "Diplomacy Suggestion"). That, combined with some unoficcial deal about payment, might achieve some of what you are looking for.

If you want more ports, ask for a map expansion! Not adding colonies to ports... Nation diplomacy isn't even out
